Buchanan has now left Bury. We'd be stupid not to at least have a word.

I thought Gilbert was steady, nothing more, nothing less. It is difficult to remember a telling contribution on his behalf either defensively or going forward. His departure is underwhelming.

Just watched the Gilbert interview on Southend player...
Only left Northampton because of Sturrock taking over and felt that with his track record they had a better chance of promotion.
He thanked Northampton for giving him an opportunity last season but felt he had paid us back because when he joined us we were 4th/5th from bottom and by the end of the season we were just outside the play-offs....
Good luck Peter, i'm sure you'll have a great chance of promotion when you start the season with a points deduction!!!!

Yeah, they've got a great chance of promotion with 7 contracted players until August 2nd at the very earliest, and probably a 10 point deduction, with the possibility of a transfer embargo staying in place for much of the season, meaning Gilbert can only play reserve matches for them anyway.

Gilbert said joining Sarfend was "a no brainer" , which just about sums up a guy who turns down a contract at a club to sign for a club that has a transfer embargo ! After being out of work until Oct last season , they guy is obviously not the full shilling.

Gilbert's a twit, although I may not have spelt that correctly.

I reckon that he's oblivious to the fact that it's Southend and their off-field problems. It's clear he thinks a lot of Sturrock and that's his main reason for going. Shame he couldn't come clean with Sammo earlier and that's made him look a bit of an ungrateful git. Gilbert was a solid player but I'm not too fussed if we can get someone like Hall in as a replacement.

Just seen this on another forum i look at...
Posted by a Southend fan....
"I believe the embargo stays in place until the PFA and HMRC are paid. That cannot happen until at least 2nd August.
That gives us four days to assemble a team to play our opening game vs Stockport.
I do not believe the Football League will let this go until that point, they certainly wont move the fixture.
I believe that the FL will expel us on or before 2nd August, if they don't, I expect the full horror of Southend United's financial position to be laid bare before the court and for us to enter admin on 2nd August. If we go into admin, guess who our biggest creditor is? Allegedly it is a certain Mr R Martin.
So a consortium, which is in place, would have to come in, clear the debts, buy some players and get things running... all within 3 days.
It ain't happening chaps.
It's got to the point I just want this over. The never ending series of cases, adjournments and wait and see, with little tangible comments coming from SUFC, is simply stressing us all out and making a considerable number of our supporters extremely angry. Will someone please hammer that final nail in the coffin that contains the rotting remains of my football club, then at least I can get on with life."
Don't look good for them... Wise choice Mr Gilbert, oh dear.....

Funny enough, it seems Sturrock hasn't signed a contract with Southend. Wonder if he told his good mate Gilbert that?
