Tilson's been sacked last night/this morning too.

A Southend fan on another forum think they'll be wound up.

Good to see the club taking action before being left in the s***, sure we can find a decent left back on loan from a championship or prem club.

Footballers never learn do they.  I can't believe Gilbert of all people, after the problems he had last year when he was struggling to find a deal, would put himself in this position.  What an idiot.  Also reminds people what idiots Agents generally are as well.

How refreshing as well to get a frank and honest comment from the manager rather than having to scratch around for detail and rumour.

Well done Sammo!  Was so pleased when it looked liked Gilbert had signed as think he was a good left back and very consistent but what a c**k!  Totally shocked.  Glad we are showing we will not let players take the piss.   Really impressed with Sammo and glad he speaks his mind on the reasons.  Hope Gilbert ends up in the conference.  Tosser.

Southend's transfer embargo expected to be lifted next week is what Sturrock has said in his first press conference and he's got "players lined up to sign." Ex-Sheff Wed and Plymouth, looks likely.

So he was going to stick out our pre season for another week without signing his paperwork then just up sticks and leave when the embargo gets lifted. He needs more than booing possible a slap or two.. Hopefully someone will put in a leg breaking challenge when we play him next Wink

I just want to echo the praise already given to Sammo. Pleased to see that at last we have a strong manager.

Well done Sammo for having the nuts to nip this in the bud before we got shafted. Very dissapointed in Gilbert but there are enough left backs out there to fill the void.

Gilbert deserves to be vilified just as much as what Giles Coke was last year.

If he does sign for Southend then his behaviour is even more of an outrage than it is at the minute.

Strong words from Sammo there, and i have to say i admire his principles.

If that is Gilberts attitude then we are better off without him...

indeed, however it gives us clarity of what the issues were and why the contract was taken away - saves all the speculation.

Also strengthens my support of Ian Sampson as a manager who is clearly putting this club first.

He was a steady defender, however well done to Sammo, correct decision from the sounds of it.

Osman still hasn't signed...

perhaps this might hurry him up then or he may be going the same way??

Spot on Sammo, can't be having players playing the club off against others trying to get a better deal. A complete lack of respect shown given we gave him a chance, although it seems we know how to attract them, i believe Kevin Nicholson done something very similar, choosing to turn his back on the club too. Good luck with finding a club in the Vauxhall conference, Gilbert.  Kiss

Defence is looking rather rocky at the moment though after this. It wasn't fantastic to begin with.

Still the best decision by Sammo though.

It all makes sense now, good call people. Holding out until Sturrock took control at Southend, Sturrock telling him to stall until the transfer embargo has been lifted, and then see ya later....

I'm just pleased Sammo got there before him, but only slightly satisfying, i presume Gilbert is familiar with the saying "what goes around, comes around". Southend or not he'll get his comeuppance before too long, that i'm sure.  Kiss
