I know footballers are`nt all blessed with brains but surely you dont have to have degree to look at a bit of paper that says how much you get paid and how long for. Im getting cheesed off with agents and stupid players taking the piss out of NTFC Time to take the power back
Sorry to post a small piece of angst, but im so bloody annoyed that our preperations for a very important season are being scuppered by cocks.
I really want us to push on this year and allow a legend like Sammo to have success.im so bloody frustrated

When you sign a contract for a new job or a new mortgage or something incredibly important do you not get a solicitor or a more experienced person than yourself to check it through for you?
I have always had my Dad look over any form of contract I'm asked to sign that may affect my life. Its common sense to let someone else do it as well as yourself. Its called protecting yourself and your interests.

Actually a fair point, but the time frame in which it happens shouldnt be this long surely? I have no experience of big money deals and the wages that players are likely to be on will dwarf my own in comparison but do they not understand peoples concerns or do they simply not care?

The cynic in me says this has probably always happened but the club hasn't been so quick to publicly announce they've signed only to be left with egg on their faces. This whole 'verbal agreement' thing we've got going on in recent years needs to stop really. Can we not afford biro's anymore?

Agents do with players all the time.

Wonder if Andy Holt's agent got a good cut for finding him reduced terms at Northampton?!

That last line is a clear assumption on your part. I know that a lot of footballers don't have particularly good education however most people would notice if their agent was taking them for a ride. Its a competitive market so if they get f****d over they'll go and find another agent. Personally I'd get an employment solicitor to look over my contracts because it would be cheaper but I can imagine that there are a number of these lads that can't be bothered to have any involvement in any of it.

Agents are a hard one to comments on. I worked for an employment agency for many years so understand the concept of doing a good job and being a shiester (I was the former by the way).
Some footballers simply don't want the hassle of negotiating.

There's nobody earning footballers wages on short term contracts that doesn't have an agent. That includes all sportsmen, artists, musicians, writers, actors etc etc. The idea they should negotiate their own contracts against the clubs solicitors, who are specifically appointed to negotiate contacts on the club's behalf, is beyond silly.

James Bond, eh? There was an agent. And before him, Dick Barton - Special Agent. They don't make 'em like that any more.
