Barry John. He was quite good at rugby.
He certainly was!

I'm a bit gutted by that. I loved Steve Wright in the Afternoon. That was my era of Radio 1 - Simon Mayo on breakfast then Simon Bates, Gary Davies followed by Steve Wright and then Jackie Brambles.

Hopefully there's a concerted effort to get Arnie & The Terminators to number 1 in his honour!

Likewise, Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 1, was my listening of choice when I first started work. R.I.P.

Like DC my first memory of 'exciting' radio and used to listen on my forklift in my first job as a late teen in the 80's.
Occasionally caught him on Radio 2. He led the way for the likes of Chris Evans and Chris Moyles but I wouldn't hold that against him!

I'm not old enough to remember the real pioneers, and like a lot of others here Steve Wright was part of my life since listening on the school bus in the 80s.
For me it was Steve, Mark and Lard, Chris Evans (90s not now!), Chris Moyles and Danny Baker.
The only DJ on the pirate ship we still have is Bernie Keith. And he has just spoken a wonderful tribute to Steve on his show.

rip Wrighty

I remember listening to Radio Luxemburg as a schoolboy/teenager. I don't recall whether Wrighty was on there but a lot of the originals on Radio 1 were.

RIP. Big shock this one, my era so a bit scary.

I too listened to Luxembourg a good few years back. Steve Wright certainly was on there, and if I recall correctly, he had a pet chimpanzee.
