Very sad news to hear that Alex Hurricane Higgins has passed away at the age of 61.

When I was a child I got into snooker & persuaded dear ol Dad to buy us a half size table & spent many hours a day & night on it & was treated to visit's to the Snooker Club in Wolverton to play on full size tables & watching it on tv Alex was my favourite player.

R.I.P. Alex

He looked awful when I saw his picture in the paper the other day, I guess all those years of smoking and drinking caught up with him, and must have been the trigger for the cancer in this case, I wasnt his greatest fan but he did a lot for the popularity of snooker.

I got into snooker in the 1980's when I met Steve Davis at Weston Favell Centre. In those days doubles snooker was on at Derngate (I was a kid and didn't go). I started playing snooker at Overstone Road Snooker Club around that time. Alex wasn't my favourite player but was part of the golden age of snooker (imo)

I know this is an RIP thread but Abington Cobbler you caught my attention when you mentioned Overstone Rd Snooker Club - I spent years playing there, great snooker hall, I was sorry to see it in its last few years before its demise.

Overstone road is now s***, the snooker club and skin skills tattoo parlour over the road both now long gone (although the tattoo parlour is now on Kettering road). I was a member at the snooker club for years and was also sad at its demise.....

Sorry to go off topic because as The Hask said this is supposed to be a RIP thread
