1966 World Cup winner Nobby Stiles has died aged 78. Not many of them left now, George Cohen, Roger Hunt, Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst, I think that's it.
I met Nobby once and he was a really nice, down to earth guy, RIP Norbert Stiles.

Ubiquitous 70s and 80s TV star and sort-of former Cobbler Des O'Connor has popped his clogs. My mum will be gutted.

Once a Cobbler always a.... Des O'Conner aged 88. R.I.P.
I went to see him perform with Jimmy Tarbuck a couple of years ago in Reading and The Cobblers were mentioned a couple of times during the show.

I went to see him perform with Jimmy Tarbuck a couple of years ago in Reading and The Cobblers were mentioned a couple of times during the show.

My folks went to see him at the Derngate last year and said he appeared to be on his last legs then. My dad was particularly scathing, saying he didn't appear to know what was going on most of the time, repeatedly needed reminding what to do next and was generally quite embarrassing to watch.

It's a shame that he's gone because, to be honest, he sounds ideally qualified to be recalled for his long awaited first team debut....

Ray Clemence former England, Liverpool and Spurs keeper dies at the age of 72 years. Quality keeper who would have had 100 caps had he not been around the same time as Peter Shilton. RIP Ray

My mum used to serve his mum when she worked in Oliver Adams on Wellingborough Road.
