Very much in the ilk of the Knight family from Old village. He of Knights of Old transport.

Donald was my boss at Knights of Old and I knew Margaret. I spent my formative years in the yard at Old (some nice houses there now) and like to think I was a part of helping to grow their business, we grafted! There were only 3 of us there then, plus a few in the office and the drivers. I'd left before they moved and can imagine the villagers were delighted!
I learnt so much there and the most diverse amount of products I have ever handled. Robert Horne paper, giant bags of Wotsits, scaffolding, canal boat building and even sent an old ice cream van in a container to Africa with a moped for a flying doctor, as well as fertilizer where they made their initial money.
One of my duties was loading containers on the crane and never had any formal training. I witnessed a fatality there and had to go to the High Court in London years later which ended in a large insurance payout. Very different times from a H&S perspective and an event which ever leaves you. Probably the main reason I moved roles.

The old boy Horace used to walk down the yard. Shame when they went under and one of the old guard was still with them.

I can remember when that happened and thought immediately of the poor dog Daisy. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gene Hackman incident had similar circumstances.

I had some involvement at the time. Very sad indeed. Amazing, but understandable, how much sympathy there was for the dog.

Fantastic actor. The French Connection is one of my all time favourites. It also reinforces my opinion about never wanting to go to Marseille again!
