It's good. When all the traders left the market people moaned about the space left. Now they are filling it with stuff, people still moan.

Yeah, f**cksake what the f**k do they think they're doing putting on interesting events in the summer that everyone can attend - I'm already busy that day petrol-bombing a disused warehouse and throwing chips at old people.

About time they used the space effectively. Sounds like a good event to get some people into town.

I know it's not a popular view but I actually think the council is attempting to do the right thing in using the Market Square more effectively. It's a good size space and perfect for holding different events.
However I think the execution is an absolute mile away from being a success. They need to hold more populist types of events that will bring in real numbers. I would question whether the numbers attending some of the events so far have included a large amount of people making special journeys into town rather than just being there anyway.
I do like the Lions though although the fountain is absolutely pathetic.

To be fair, I think the town has been a bit more pleasureable this summer. The lions, the fountain and the flowers plus Northampton's Got Talent and the village green. It has brightened up the whole area no end.
The fountain has been criticised but look at how many people have been relaxing around it and how many kids have been playing in it. It can't be that bad.

I am either getting old, grumpy or boring, or maybe all three but when my mate said he was taking his daughter on a lion hunt in Northampton, i could think oof nothing worse i would want to do than that. As I said it must be me.

Now if only they could somehow change the population of the Town Centre to 75% British and 25% Foreign as opposed to the current ration being 90% foreign and 10% British.....I feel like a stranger in my own country when im in town, which is every frigging day as i work in the town centre.

I understand that a lot of people are unhappy about the amount of non-British people in and around the town centre, but I don't quite see what the problem is. If the population was 75% British, would you take advantage of it and communicate with that 75% in some way?
I'm not claiming your post is incorrect or trying to be inflammatory, Dust, I'm just curious.

I'm not trying to imply anything but I'm also curious, why does it make you feel uncomfortable? Also why 'more'?

Generally because i can't understand what they are saying, seriously that is the reason, also because they are always always around, just hanging around. 'More' because generally town isn't a very comfortable place to stay in for a long time, mainly due to the English chav scum that also just hang around town looking for trouble, spitting on the floor etc etc.
