No one with Bayo up front. Do what Blackpool did last year and play with four at the back, one up front and the others dropping or pushing forward and wide whenever they get the chance. Perfect for Jacobs, Thornton and Robinson. Kind of needs a holding midfielder but looks like GJ has Tozer down for that job.

Looks like poor Tadgh is the forgotten man of the forward line!! Hopefully that's only on this messageboard and GJ has him in his plans still!!

If Purcell is the forgotten forward how do you think Billy Mckay feels?

There are no names on my teamsheet yet.

The slate has been wiped clean and it's now down to the players to come back from the close season and their prove their fitness/attitude/ability

as the fashionable / lazy phrase goes... +1.

I think we've only played to his strengths for half a season. With Billy, you need a big centre-forward to partner him. When we put him with Bayo he started scoring. That said, even though I do like Billy, I can't see him being anything other than a sub this year.

Knowing GJ's desire to play people out of their natural position, and knowing where McKay played in his one game under GJ, I wouldn't be at all surprised if McKay was competing for the RW berth this year rather than up front.

Bayo will bring the best out of Harrad, Robinson or McKay. Nice to have some decent competition up there.

I think Jacobs proved last season that he is easily most effective starting wide left. If we do revert to a 4-3-3 then I would imagine Jacobs to be one of the front 3. Think 4-4-2 all day if Bayo is starting but if he's unavailable then a front 3 line of Robinson, Harrad, Jacobs doesnt sound too bad either.

Can Davies play attacking mid? Don't know too much about him but thought he was an out-and-out winger?

GJ said in the chron a fair few weeks ago that he was looking to make Davies a CM.

And that RW is likely coming to us on loan as well, I think.

I suppose as proven by Blackpool, this is a very successful formation. Cannot fail whatsoever ...

What, so you're the clever minority of one who didn't expect Blackpool to get only half the number of points they did?!

If you can get that group of journeyman pros to only drop out of the Prem on the last day, then I think that says a lot for the formation and the management.

 Grin

I suppose they done well given what they were. However, I can only see Gary Johnson playing a very pressing 4-4-2 myself, which will look more like a 4-2-4 when attacking (maybe even 2-4-4 with the likely attacking fullbacks). With a very sharp looking forward line, and a very inexperienced and cheap defence (Goalkeeper tba) I feel the focus will be on getting the ball out wide and up the pitch as quick as possible. A formation similar to Tottenham (without Van Der Vaart) would be my preferred tactic.

Time will have to tell. It's the only area of the pitch where we don't look like (or look like being) vastly superior on last season.

Yep true. The defence is the worry for me, I think we're still desperate for an experienced body to come in at the back, plus we are lead to believe that if indeed Dunn does moves on, the goalkeeper coming in will be a young loanee from the prem and likewise for the left-back spot too.

Instead of scaremongering, why don't you just listen to what Gary Johnson has to say? He said he has the players he wants, they've agreed to join, he just can't name them yet. If in his opinion we need an experienced body at the back, that's what we'll get. If Dunn goes, we'll get as good if not better keeper in his place (hardly difficult) and if Johnson reckons a young loanee from the Premiership will do a job for us then that's good enough for me. To expect on June 27th that all pieces of the jigsaw should be in place is quite frankly ridiculous, I bet there isn't a team in the country that wont sign another player before the season starts. Contracts finish on June 30th, if we aren't sorted by July 7th you can start to worry. Now go lie down and give us all a break.
