ian atkins had the same tried and trusted method................getting in players who you know can do a job for you, and that will work hard for you, and respect you rather than people who think they have a given right to be in the team whether they perform or not.
I think that is a fair comment, my concern though is that it doesn't really do much to help team spirit if the current players do not even get the chance to prove themselves.  Does anyone actually know for a fact that Harrad thinks he has a given right to be in the team?  It also works the other way in that you can only rely on your tried and tested players if you're prepared to bust them out when they fail to perform, I can't comment on whether GJ will do that but in his defence he did drop Tozer out and then brought him back in so you have to give benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I'm being unnecessarily harsh on him, but I've heard stories of cliquey dressing rooms at his previous clubs and we've all seen how that really undermines a team as it has been a constant problem at NTFC for some years (none moreso evident than under Stuart Gray)

a cliquey dressing room will only be a problem if we start losing games.

but yes, i agree with all your points.................there is also the issue, as there was with atkins, that your tried and trusted players can only get you so far.

then, when you need players of a higher standard, the manager doesnt have the ability to manage them successfully.

something that is always mentioned in regard to roy hodgson (a la liverpool)

Does anyone actually watch Harrad play? He does more than his fair share of running.

Anyway, on an unrelated note, I can now see Young being given a start at right back for the opening game, after his impressive pre season and Nana replacing Corker on the left. It would mean we are lacking left footers in the team though which im not a fan of

I dont think Corker has done badly, but from what ive seen of him, he doesnt quite offer enough to be our first choice left back. Hes steady and shown some potential but for me, he just lacks that spark and penetration you want from a modern day full back... I'd compare him to Peter Gilbert. His final ball and set pieces have been poor and he didnt seem to be clicking with Jacobs. That might take time, but a good start is imperative. To be fair, Jacobs tends not to utilise the left back as well as he could, and for me, when we had Davis and Jacobs down the left, we should have been tearing teams to pieces regularly but Davis wasnt seeing as much of the ball as he should have.  Having said that, and despite the consistency/motivation issues, Id still have been happier if we kept Davis on...

Anyway, not long now to find out. AWOOGA!

Yeah, 100% agree with this. Apparently Harrad is just Andy Kirk in disguise according to some fans! ... Regarding the left back slot, I would like to see Nana starting there ahead of Corker. Especially seeing how well that Young has performed at right back. Bring on Saturday!

Seems only fair to start young after his performances which surely means that if Harrad performs in training and when given the opportunity to play he can earn himself a starting role.

Kirks record wasn't awesome here Alton but 30 goals isn't poor either! In fact he scores nearly one in every two games in his career, that is quality whatever level you are at. But he was hounded by the knowledgeable lot here. Incredible, goalscorers are hard to find, we get one and everyone slates them!!! lol. Give Harrad a full season of playing regular football then judge  Wink .

Thanks for that, I didn't realise he scored so many. It's not such a bad record considering he was sub for 24 of his 83 games here.

Is that not 83 starts + 24 sub

Either way, he does have a great career record with 1 goal every 3 games.

I think we will all need to revise our teams with the injurys/new signings/form

GK: Walker
RB: Young
LB: Nana
CB: Johnson
CB: Webster
CM: Tozer
CM: Turnbull
RM: Davis
LM: Jacobs
SS: Robinson
CF: Bayo

Subs: Hall, Westwood, Corker, McKoy,Savage

Shame that there is only room for 5 subs now, limiting the chances for the young lads as I imagine the likes of Pozgain and Salihu would have been regular features there. Hopefully they get a chance in the league cup. Looks a pretty strong squad though, and our reserve team isnt too bad either:

P Walker
Holt
Wedderburn
Thornton
Kazaboni
Gilligan
Built
Pozgain
Purcell
Salihu
Harrad

Anyway, as I said ages ago 18-20 players my ar*e. I make that 27 "first teamers". Even if Gilly goes and Built, Kazaboni AND Purcell are shipped out on loan, its still 23 to fill 16 positions, meaning 7 players miss out every week. Hopefully through competitiveness and not injury/suspension.

I'd go with something like that. Looks a vast improvement on last season  Tongue
