Now Heart FM moved to MK & joined up with the MK Heart & Chilton stations to form 3 Counties Heart, does this leave Northampton as the only major town without a local independent radio station? even Rugby has their own local station. i gave up on local radio years ago & now listen to Absolute Radio but i know of quite a few of people who rely on local radio for travel news but want music as well so dont listen to BBC Northampton

Not sure what has happened on Heart FM Breakfast as Tony Dibbin & Emma Saint have both been replaced at short notice which is a bit of a surprise as they were quite big in Bedfordshire.

Heart FM is s***, they only play a limited play list on a constant loop.... Tryo have they been replaced by stuart and Natalie? because they are s*** and the reason that Jagger and Woody left Heart FM... I didnt like Jagger and Woody much but they were far better... they left because they heard aout the merger and simply asked if they were safe for the breakfast show, heart said no so they went to Wales. They do still go to the Bear every Friday night and a radio show in Wellingborough!

Independent local radio has always been drivel but over the years it seems to become less localised each year, now it just feels like a national commercial radio station. This is a great example of why the BBC should be supported and am happy to pay my licence fee for the benefit of having an ad free local station and good quality national ad free stations.

You know generally the License Fee gets alot of people moaning and complaing BUT some of the stuff the BBC does is bloody fantastic, TV and Radio wise.

Even BBC Three Counties radio play music now I spend a fair bit of time on Radio 7 listening to comedy shows from years gone by & listen to selected shows on Talk Sport but Radio 2 is my mainstream listening although Planet Rock & Absolute Radio get my ears late at night. I've got a DAB Digital radio in the house which is ok but stations are somewhat limited with about only 20 channels I can pick up although plenty of others flash up but I'm obviously to far away from the signal to listen.

The reason why Heart, like many others have had to merge is because of one thing... money. The local radio stations are no longer making the money they need to keep their stations local to communities so are having to look at other avenues.
You may have noticed that the adverts you hear on Heart are the same few over and over. These are the only companies that have paid for the advertising meaning a massive loss in revenue.
Its a shame but in order for them to stay alive, mergers are becoming more and more across the country

Do you have to have a digital radio in your car to get Absolute, I thought it was a digital only station. The only reason I would listen to any local radio is for the traffic updates, but in the case of Heart, that is pretty pointless now becuase there half minute updates now have to cover a much bigger area and therefore they pretty much only mention the M1.

no you can listen on MW1233(for Northants) but the reception can be poor, i use a DAB Pure Highway in the car for long journeys which means if you like 80s music you can listen to Absoulte 80s
