I would. I could comfortably live on "only" 40k per week, and no amount of extra money would persuade me to go and live in the land of deserts, flip flops, and the call to prayer. The change of lifestyle would be eye opening, and most certainly would not suit me or the current Mrs T.
You could provide me with a five star hotel with all of the bells and whistles, but I dont want bell boys attending to my every whim, I can cook my own egg and chips thank you.
Being contained within a hotel facility, with all facilities and air-con, is akin to being under glorified house arrest IMO.

You are correct, but the 40k per week lasts until your mid-thirties or next big injury.
There is still more than half your life to go once you've retired from playing.

The £40k would last the length of his contract. Anyway, he should be able to save enough up, to open his own bookies. That should see him through.

I get that for any footballer on maybe £5k a week but when you are in the realms of a couple of million a year it comes down to lifestyle.
I don’t blame him. He didn’t really have an England career anyway and even a season over there sets him up very comfortably for life. He’ll even be able to afford a messy divorce in the future.

Ivan will be able to get with BEDS and the Trust to buy the club. £21 million per year should be plenty with added interest on top.

Million pound a year (after tax) for about 5 years living a footballers lifestyle (so around 5 million earned). I'd imagine he'd be saving around a million or two to retire with. It's not loads when you've been used to a lifestyle, but you could make it work with investments and a post football carrer.

If he does the same 5 years in Saudi he'll have earned over £100m (tax free). Probably be saving at least £90m of that if he can limit his spending to £2.5m a year.

Nice problem to have - but as said previously, I absolutely know where I'd be in his shoes.
