I've seen a fair few comments from people questioning why he's flushed his England career down the toilet.

Hmm, move for 400k a week or stay where you are on 40k a week plus a few token appearance fees every now and then...? I'd be reaching for the chain too!

Mind you, I wouldn't sniff at 40k a week either...

3rd choice striker or £400k a week? I know where I'd be.

Why would moving out there stop him playing from England

When Jordan Henderson went out there he was still picked

Henderson never even made the provisional Euro 2024 squad.

Because he barely made the squad this time around. Moving to Saudi won't improve things.

He was dropped once he came back to Europe mainly because of his form

And his form plummeted when he went to Saudi, because he was playing in a toy town league. His confidence was shot, when he realised that he had made a big error.
Lets continue this conversation, when Toney realises that he has made a similar mistake, and starts to agitate for a move back to Europe. I doubt that he will see out a year of his contract.

We will see. This was probably his last chance at a life changing contract, in comparisons to many of his contemporaries his career path up until now has meant he has earned a fraction on the money. I’m sure he will be back at some stage but I’m not sure it’s fair to call it a mistake as I’m sure he knows the potential big risk to his international career but I don’t begrudge him making whatever choices he does.

He is free to make his own choices, and career moves, but a Saudi lifestyle rarely suits western athletes or their ladies. Henderson only played 19 times for Al Ettifaq before deciding that it didnt suit him. I dont begrudge Toney any success, I just cannot understand why a professional footballer would want to go and play in the desert.

I would say that the grass isnt always greener, but maybe the sand isnt always shinier in this instance.
The Chinese super league didnt last very long, and they chucked loads of Yuan at it.

400k a week in a country where gambling is illegal is pretty much as good as it gets for a recovering addict.

I suppose that would depend upon our morals and how much we valued those and our quality of life over money. I suspect that I could make my lifestyle of a dream job and ONLY being paid £40k per week work if I really put my mind to it.

Having said that, BOTN's point overcoming an addiction should not be underrated.

I would. I could comfortably live on "only" 40k per week, and no amount of extra money would persuade me to go and live in the land of deserts, flip flops, and the call to prayer. The change of lifestyle would be eye opening, and most certainly would not suit me or the current Mrs T.
You could provide me with a five star hotel with all of the bells and whistles, but I dont want bell boys attending to my every whim, I can cook my own egg and chips thank you.
Being contained within a hotel facility, with all facilities and air-con, is akin to being under glorified house arrest IMO.
