On another note, i dont think i'd want Walker to start in goal this season with the expectation on him. I don't for one minute doubt his ability but Dunn was shot after the first 5 or so games last season because of his, and others balls ups and the confidence was never regained.

That is what I love about football - no two people see things the same and there are some well articulated opposing views
I'm not going to preach on Gilly but I think he is essential to the balance of the side and his movement and drive is a significant key to the progressive passing style of football that many of the Gilly doubters are hoping to see.
Assuming we play 4-4-2, assuming Jacobs is kept out of the centre of the park until he finds his feet in 1st team football and Thornton is not asked to play in the centre becuase he leaves the back 4 exposed:
Osman & Gilly > Wedderburn & Gilly > Wedderburn & Osman
The only time I could accept Wedderburn & Osman as a pair is if we are looking to close a game out or if we have a tough away trip where our primrary objective is not to conceed. Perhaps Torquay away is a game where Sammo will adopt a safety first approach ?
As far as I am concenred 4-3-3, Diamond Midfields & 4-5-1 are high risk strategies as Division 4 footballers need to play in the formation they are used to.

You're right Tiki-Taki, we do need a Gilligan type player in midfield and if Wedderburn isn't of that ilk then it's disappointing that Sammo hasn't brought somebody in to replace him. However I expect we are looking to bring in a couple of long term loanees so perhaps a hard tackling midfield general will be one of them. I can only hope so.

I wasn't convinced with the 4-2-3-1 formation against Coventry, we looked far too isolated up front. I think 4-4-2 is our best shout.

I think you're probably the one person in the entire fanbase that would leave Davis out of the side, but fair enough.

The thread said if we were playing tomorrow. At the moment, Jacobs is playing better and looking fitter than Davis.

this is the team that started against Watford (apart from the goalie) and i though that was the best i've seen us play for ages so i'd go with that. Jacobs is looking better than davis at the moment and has definitely had more impact in the pre-season games.

I would start Jacobs ahead of Davis for the Torquay game based on pre season.

No Gilly. He doesn't actually fit into the first formation, which now is my preferred formation seeing as Osman has signed. From what i've heard, Jacobs has had a good pre-season and I was impressed by him when we played Bournmouth in the JPT. Assuming Thornton will probably be either injured or unfit half the time then Gilligan would play there.
