Well when on earth does his contract run out then, its just over a week until our season starts. And if this is the case then why don't him and Coventry just cancel their contract now.

I think it is quite clear his contract expires on 31st July and i have no idea why they don't just cancel it, i guess because it doesn't really matter? May aswell just let it expire and then he will sign our contract.

Whether it's still the same I don't know, but I'm sure that in past times the contracts themselves run to 30th June, but if a player is released and hasn't fixed themselves up with something by the end of the July a further month's money is due from the club that released that player.  Hence there's generally a huge amount of transfer activity at the start of August as players find themselves with no cash and clubs finally have some money to spend!

Ok so in laymans terms.

If I was contracting and being paid £500 a day, I had finished the work I needed to do but the contract stated I was going to be paid up until the end of the month.

Whilst I was waiting for this contract to end, I was offered another contract at a different business for £200 a day.

Would I then ask organisation A to stop paying me the money I am contractually obliged to be earning so that I could start work a little early at organisation B for LESS money?

Bear in mind organisation B don't give a s*** about the situation because I'm already working for them but still being paid by organisation A. This means that my new employer is getting my work for free until my initial contract runs out.  Wink

I guess that makes it a bit cleary for me  Wink It just seems weird that players would be contracted to their previous clubs until 7 days before the season starts, hard to play with much certainty. I don't know why play contracts couldn't generally end at the end of June when the transfer window is already open.

But as long as he signs I will be more than happy.
