Well done Abdul and well done Gilligan

Oh and further to the other thread where we were debating Gilligan's contribution ....

was it just coincidence that we were crap against Lincoln when he wasn't playing but played some bloody good football against Cheltenham when he was back.

As I have just said in the Andy Holt thread ....  just because players don't set the world alight .... just because they make the odd error (they would not be in this league if they didn't) ..... doesn't mean they are not an important cog in our team's wheel.

Oh and Marvo, I agree it's a shame they got the landmark(s) wrong.  I think it would be a good idea for them to work with you on the stats given they probably don't have enough pairs of hands to give it priority.  I also think they should have made a much stronger announcement about both events as I agree such milestones deserve more recognition.

So further to my post in the ABDUL OSMAN thread and with the club interviewing said player about his “supposed” 100th appearance, I thought I’d do a little research to ensure I’d got the data right and if I had, to prevent the club making an even bigger fool of itself and the player. So I laboriously went through the team sheets for every game since Abdul has been at the club and indeed they show his 100th appearance was against Lincoln City. With this information at hand I contacted the club on Friday through Gareth Willsher and got a nice email back saying

“we’ll take a slap on the wrist and promise to check the stats closer next time”

With this is mind, imagine my surprise then when the team was called out on the pitch that they still announced it was his 100th appearance and poor old Abdul was going round shaking hands with all the other players. What a complete an utter farce. What on earth is the point of having these benchmarks if you’re going to totally ignore the records and make it up as you go along?

Meanwhile, poor old Ryan Gilligan made his 200th appearance yesterday. Not much fanfare was there? Although I don't know for certain it wouldn't surprise me if he's not the youngest player to ever get to that total. Well done Ryan. Perhaps the club will make an announcement at a future game where you can pretend it’s your 200th appearance.

I'd say almost certainly it was.

Coincidence that is.

If that was Gilly's 200th AND he is the youngest Cobbler to reach that milestone, missing it, even if it is only the former, is inexcuseable. Sad
Three lots of independent stats, do they take an average to achieve a result. Roll Eyes
Marvo, you have already demonstrated your meticulous record keeping with both this and your confirmed corrections of soccerbase, Gareth would be advised to keep you close.  Wink

What? Of having him requote something of yours from 7 months ago or pick you up on a small spelling mistake? Ooooh scary!

Didn't know they allowed 30-somethings to enter spelling bees?

That buzzer will be going off now and the light flashing in the inner sanctum at Stat HQ: "Them bastards are talking about me on the internet! Get the statbook out, I'll bamboozle them with numbers"

Gilligan gives 100%, is intelligent - which is a rarity in the modern game - and I will never criticise someone who wears the claret shirt with pride.

All these years Karl and you still don't get it do you?

If you're all discussing what I've said or done, there's no need for me to post, mission accomplished.

Hey, I like to give up some of my precious time for those less fortunate.

Anyway, I've driven a van and got pissed up at weekends, only difference is, I've gone on to better myself, you haven't changed at all since I first met you, trying to cling on to your youth while life sadly passes you by. Still, keep on running this board, it's the only thing you've got going for you.
