Good move for fitness purposes

Good news, hopefully he proves himself to be a top striker and gets back into our starting 11 after his loan spell....

I reckon he'll be a regular 50-a-season striker when fit.

It doesn't really mean that much but GJ used him a lot more in pre-season, even un-fit, than Wedders and Harrad. Whether that was just to get him fit for a transfer/loan, who knows?

Lot of naive posts here.  Very much doubt we'll see Purcell play for the Cobblers again, nice to see yet another non-GJ signing given a chance.....

Naive or not, I think it's a good move from GJ. He's brought in Marlon Jackson on loan for a month, and sent Purcell out to Darlo for a month to see how he does. If Jackson does well for us and we can get him on loan til Jan, Darlo can keep Tadhg for a bit longer too. Keeps our options open, gets Tadgh fitter without having him play without him having to get match fit with us and, no doubt, having the supporters getting on his back for not lasting the full 90 mins.

In an ideal world, Purcell will go out on loan, come back to us and we can get rid of Bas Savage. Do I think this will happen? Probably not. But I'm not going to have a go at GJ for letting Purcell prove his fitness elsewhere whilst, at the same time, getting another striker in to improve the first team squad.

Surely if he does well at Darlo GJ has to give him chance?

Well I'd have thought so. That's what I meant by "in an ideal world, he'd come back and Bas would go". I honestly think it's a good move and benefits all parties. The Negative Nancy's on here appear to think otherwise.

If he does well at Darlo, it will be Darlo giving him the chance.

If he goes to Darlo and scores a few goals and improves his fitness Johnson would be absolutely stupid not to recall him and give him a go.

which will make the moaners on here happy surely? The "If you can't get 3 or 4 goals in a month in the Conference then we don't want him" kind of attitude?

Lets wait and see. I get the impression that GJ likes him, otherwise he'd have already gone the same way as Harrad and Thornton.

well he isnt out of contract, like thornton, and he has no sell on value, like harrad as he has had a long term injury and is still unfit and unproven.

if he does well at darlo, he will have the sell on value, and he wont play for us.
