Discussion on Radio 5 this morning about Premiership teams playing B teams in the Championship, Leagues 1 & 2 etc. What do people think? I initially thought it was a great idea, it would be great to have Manchester City B in our league. However, surely the away followings would be terrible? But it would give Cobblers fans the chance to see Town at some Premiership grounds. Or could it mean that teams like ours would face even more pressure to stay in the league - if 10 Premiership teams put a B team into the league system, 10 current league teams would get pushed out...

Terrible idea, works in Spain where they don't really value their lower leagues at all and they're just an opportunity to give reserve sides of big clubs competitive experience, but the football league is held in high esteem in England and putting reserve sides of Prem teams in it would devalue it.

Is used in Germany, second teams can play in the 3rd tier however if they are placed in a promotion slot they are replaced by the next team below them. Below the 3rd tier, teams play in regionalised leagues attempting promotion to the 3rd tier. Bayern, Werder and Stuttgart seconds played in the third tier last season although Bayern were relegated to their respective regional league.

I know it will never happen but it would just be taking the piss out of lower league clubs and give an clubs who already had a large monopoly in the game an even bigger one.
I thought this is what the reserve leagues were for?
