After a successful reunion with my old university mates last year in Portsmouth (where we studied), we are up for another. Original suggestion was Oxford, which meant I could get to combine it with a trip to Sixfields, but now someone has suggested Bristol, which is way too far for me. As I have raised the objection, I feel obliged to suggest an alternative. Most of the lads are now London based. We want some live sport to see and some good beer to drink. Other than that, my hazy memory of last time is that we can make our own entertainment.
Any suggestions?

Nottingham is my University city and was absolutely amazing. You cannot fail to have a cracking night/weekend in Notts.
Other favourites include Manchester (probably too far afield for the Londoners!) and Bournemouth. Plenty of skirt in both of those locations if that's what some of your party are after.

For traditional and historical real ale pubs..little in the UK beats Oxford. Clubbing, despite there being well over the average for UK 'skirt' is pretty gash though! For all round pubs..ale..out with the lads..location...gotta be Nottingham tbh!

Me and my mates do something similar each year. York was good (lots of hen nights, stag nights etc), weirdly we went to Lincoln one year, which was also better than expected. - Obviously, now living in the North East, Newcastle is a GREAT night. Plenty of pubs, clubs, bars etc, and the Laughing Hyena comedy club is a good night. If you do decide to come up - avoid the Bigg Market!!! Full of Andy Carroll types!

Cheers people. I suggested Nottingham, but somebody reckoned it was a bit rough. I thought about Newcastle, but if I've turned down Bristol, I can't really suggest the opposite for the Londoners.

Same, many a nights out in Nottingham (my girlfriend lives here). Always invite me mates over for a big night out, and never once had trouble here. Great city, loads to do in the daytime and evening.

Sheffield's a decent night out, but for lads weekend away you need to head for the coast, Torbay, St Ives in Cornwall, Blackpool or Brighton.

Probably no use if Bristol is too far for you but Bath is excellent. A far better quality hen night slapper on the prowl, all with a scenic back drop.

Why the UK? Far better (and probably cheaper/no more cost) to get on a cheap flight, go somewhere decent and watch a good top level Spanish/Italian/German game. You could all meet up at Brum airport; nice and central...and 3 hours later would be in the pub!

Of which none offer anything close to a decent pint...not everything, but does factor in! having lived in the country that has most females ratio (fittest too!) for eight years..still relish going to Bristol for a w/e (did an all dayer there last Tue - brilliant!) et-al as opposed to the continent for a w/e bash! Football in Italy..different game so as to speak!
