Absolutely.  Fair play to the lad, that can't have been easy.  Massive amount of credit to Darren Deadman too, although he'll probably get in trouble for not booking him.

Have to agree. Was really good to hear the report last night.
Good finish too and worthy of the dedication.

He didnt remove his shirt so is that still a bookable offence?

Really pleased for his goal...thoughts with his family...

Also praise to the Ref...Letter of law said he should be booked, but common sense prevailed....

Its a shame this thread isnt on the main page.
We had our issues with Billy Sharp over the years but this is above all of that.

Well done to him and well done to the ref.

Daft but true - The law is if a player removes his shirt over his head, or covers his head with his shirt when celebrating a goal - or if he makes gestures which (in the opinion of the referee) are provocative when celebrating a goal (including a message on a shirt) then he should be booked.

From this, lifting up your shirt to reveal a message will only receive a booking if the ref thinks the message is inappropriate.

A link to the patronising training course is here: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_12_fouls_misconduct_en_47379.pdf
