The words of David Cardoza. He does say it is only temporary while the property market is dead. So can we all forget about this and do the one really positive thing I think DC has said in the last few years: "we need to focus on the football." Link

It's been that long since we had any news that i had forgotten about it....
At least DC is honest about it though, it isn't the right time for that type of development.

I see that DC even went over the wage budget to get JJ here, although off loading McCready put us back on budget again. Like DC said the club definately looks in better shape than 12 months ago

Cardoza's not stupid, he knows that if a really good signing is attainable by going fractionally over the wage budget and there's a good chance that signing could be the difference between 3rd and 4th, or 7th and 8th, the money we'll recover from being successful will be more than the extra outlay on the wage bill. In the case of Jonno, we know he has what it takes to set League Two alight because he did it in patches last season and we know he has the ability to be a match-winner. Streching the playing budget to sign him is exactly the kind of sensible gamble we need to be taking, not spending £300,000 on Josh Low and Andy Kirk. In that sense it seems the people running the club have learned from the last time we were down here.

Glad he FINALLY realised that.

It was off the front burner completely as soon as fat tone and his cobblers loathing oppoes the varnsverys got into power, dick church did the final bit of damage by trying to protect his crockery shop, labeling his efforts as some kind of crusade to turn the clock back 40 years and get us all crammed into the town centre of a sat morn. Neither us or the the silly saints are allowed to build retail as it will damage his business ( and therefore his potential to buy man bags ) yet he is killing off our sporting clubs by his actions, rank hypocrisy

Signs are that the housing market is just starting to pick up. By the time they bagged a permission and started to build the site out (2013/2014 by my estimate) I would expect the housing market to have recovered considerably.
Wasn't the plan to provide 50% affordable housing? Either DC can't see the general market house prices recovering sufficiently to cross subsidise the affordable housing element or funding from the Homes and Communities Agency for the additional affordable housing has disappeared due to Tory cuts. Or most likely it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B.
Either way providing the additional affordable housing appears to be the stumbling block to development in the short term. This would all be resolved if the Council agreed to a masterplan of the area which included retail uses which would not compete with the town centre - but we have been banging on about that for ages.

I'd like to thank David Cardoza for making this opportunity of winning an award come true. David, I am eternally grateful

He didn't appear to know this as we were in freefall out of League 1 last year. In fact the sound bites from the board were that we were too good to get relegated followed by we were too good to be in this league last season.

Maybe, it will all be back on again now that the goverment has announced that councils can earn money from building new homes to cover the housing shortage.

It's not houses that Dave wants...
Exactly, what Cardoza probably wanted to say was.... "The redevelopment is on the back burner until after the May 2011 elections when we hope for a more understanding, less narrow minded Borough Council to be elected" IMHO anyway....

The May 2011 local elections could be crucial to the future of the re-development. Get this lot out then we may get another shot at retail development from a more forward thinking council. And May 2011 we will be celebrating promotion back to League One so a new council will be eager to get in and give us the go ahead and before long we will have the re-development and pushing for Championship football once again. Happy Days are around the corner...
