Sammo bottled it , simple as that. If he hasnt got the confidence in the new players he brought in , was it because nobody of any quality wanted to sign on , the budget too small or they have no idea of the available players out there ? i have got a copy of the Racing Posts Big Kick Off and it lists all the players signed and released from each club and there was 100s of players released. for instance peterboro released 10 players and half of them found clubs that you might say were of lower stature than us. i guess Npton is not a big attraction, and also it is not my job on the line.

Nicely summed up. McKay and Guinan as a front two are simply too weak to play together upfront in this league.
Losing Thornton before the kick off was a massive blow, would have been interesting to know who he would have started instead off.
I'd reckon Rodgers

Another thing to pick up on, and those clowns on the radio kept saying it, that it was only the first game, and that Torquay are a good side and they'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, as if to say it's not really all that bad! So it was our first opening day defeat for 7 years, our heaviest opening day defeat in god knows how long, and all this against a team who just 16 months ago were scraping up through the conference playoffs whilst we were fighting delegation from league one. I suppose they'd call it progress......down at Torquay!

It's how things have got unfortunately, once an established League One club looking to build onwards, and now to the point were it's almost become acceptable to lose away at the likes of Torquay Utd. Fact is we are just a run of the mill League Two side again, and doubt that'll change anytime soon.
