Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I can't understand the immediate reaction people are having that this is a good thing for England.

Honestly, I really couldn't care less how well England do because I hate being at England games with celeb watchers, families and casual supporters who are there to enjoy their big day out. I for one feel Capello would have wanted to go out on a high and after the World cup would have wanted to prove his worth.

Everyone is on the Harry Redknapp band wagon but I just don't understand why everyone thinks he would be such a resounding success.

I personally think removing Terry as captain was the right thing to do but it has to be the manager's call at the end of the day so fair play to Capello for sticking to his guns. The FA have tried to take the moral high ground over the Terry thing and have actually ended up with it all reflecting quite badly on them.

If the criteria was 'Number of World Cups won' he'd only be joint second.

Not really a surprise, Capello seems like a proud man and he was never just going to lie down and accept that the FA stripped Terry of the captaincy again, especially as Capello personally gave him back the captaincy after the first incident. In the FA's defence, as England manager you really shouldn't be coming out in public and criticising your bosses and I think he would've been sacked anyway.

As for a replacement, would prefer to see Stuart Pearce given a chance, but Guus Hiddink has expressed an interest and the FA would be mad to just ignore that!

I have to agree that he was going to go either on his own or with a push from the FA. His position was to be honest untennable and I would do the same if my boss did something similar to me.
As for Redknapp, he's done wonders at Spurs that cannot be denied and they are going to want to keep him at least until the end of the season. Is he the right person for the biggest job in English football? I like the idea of Pearson taking over.

As a side thought is JT going to fall on his sword in support of Capello?

Obviously Redknapp will take over but if that doesnt work out, how about Ian Holloway?? He has everything you want an England manager to have!

Capello has shot up in my estimation.  He has backed his captain literally to the hilt.  The FA as usual have made a real pig's ear of the whole saga.  I wonder now if the new manager wiill select Terry, will Terry even agree to go to the Euros, and will other players side with JT?  I'm thinking Ashley Cole especially, Sturridge and possibly Lampard.  My biggest fear is that Stuart Pearce will be appointed caretaker boss until after the Euros - he has been a managerial disaster and I cannot understand how he gets to manage the U21s.  And I agree about 'onest 'arry.  He has fallen out with virtually all his chairmen and somehow I can't see him and the FA being a marriage made in heaven.  But for the lack of any other English candidate he'll probably get the job.

Before you laud Capello, understand that he was involved in the meeting that decided that JT was to be removed from post.
His objections were raised and noted as were others but the committee voted and agreed the course of action.
In any normal committee based democracy, even though you do not agree, you go with the committee agreed decision.
He did at the meeting, then went public with his criticism of the FA on Italian TV.  Roll Eyes

I'd love to see Hoddle get another shot at it but I suspect he has had his time, so, Harry or Jose for me.

Harry might fail, Jose might fail, christ everyone before has failed bar Alf Ramsey!

I am a firm believer that whoever we have in charge should be English or at the very least British, purely because that means Martin O'Neill still might have a shot one day Wink
I understand the 'don't care where he is from' shout, however can we truly say that Sven or Fabio truly 'got' English football and mentality? I don't think they did. Half the problem with the national side is unity and ensuring the players want to play for the manager and understanding the English/British culture and way of life. Yes some will say it is the national team so bloody well play your heart out every game BUT if you have no confidence or relationship with the man in charge then you will struggle to hit top peak constantly, in my opinion. We also need a manager to understand that as a nation we are massively fickle and one minute will love you and the next will want you hung from your b0ll0cks, Harry and Jose both have the personality for the role.
