Watching Sammo's interview his body language looked down & somewat deflated although Geoff Doyle was trying to put words into his mouth saying Guttridge was difficult to handle, even if Thornton is cheaper he hasn't said yes & he did seem quite choked up on Dyer leaving but it does seem Jacobs could have a very big season ahead of him.

Do you know what "Nemesis" means?
A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent personified in this case by a sex starved voyeur that is Tyro.

I assume it would be 18 before any loanees that come in, but that's still leaving the squad painfully thin.
It sure leaves us needing a few loanees, the tried and tested success of NTFC in 2008-09 Loaning players in also played an absolutely vital part in 2007/08 when we recorded our highest league finish in 10 years. But everyone conveniently forgot that after we saw the flip side of the coin the following season. Loaning players in (so long as you get the right ones) can definitely be a successful strategy at this level because it allows you to bring a standard of player in that you wouldn't otherwise be able to get in League Two (eg John Johnson). When Hereford went up in 07/08 they acquired the nickname "Hereloans United". We shouldn't let one bad experience put us off loan players. Most clubs down in the basement need loanees in order to have a large enough squad to compete.

It's nigh-on impossible to get out of this division without either or both of a) paying more in wages than anyone else or b) getting decent Premiership/Championship loans in. I can only think of Bournemouth as a recent example of a team that achieved promotion with neither. All our recent promotions have been on the back of an advantageous budget with a couple of very good loanees - and I don't see the next one being any different. But on the plus side, I'd expect a 25% cut to still keep us competitive.

Agreed. We should still have enough about us to be challenging up the top end of the table, anything less will be a massive disappointment

I think with this budget cut we really need to consider if we can afford to keep Bayo. I know the club has made it's mind up and offered him a contract, but we didn't expect anything else. I'm not saying for one moment that I desperatly want Bayo out of the club, or that we weren't completly reliant on him for most of last season.
But it is pretty clear that Bayo's wages are worth that of proberly 4 other average league two players. Personally, if it means we can only have a squad of 18/19, I wouldn't be too sad if we had to say thank you and goodbye to Bayo.

Im inclined to agree with you Woody. The situation we were in when he was injured was shocking.
Keeping Osman, Thornton and Davis is a good look too. Spend some of the excess on a decent right mid and we're starting to look very strong in midfield.

Well to me it looks very clear - Holt wont be with us next year - he looked and sounded determined that what was offered was not acceptable - Sammo is reported as saying no more money is on the table.
Result - he will go elswhere and take the risk he gets offered more.
How long I wonder will Sammo give these players to decide, I know Bayo was meant to be coming back with an answer today but surely it is not helpful to anyone having this I might or might not scenario.

I would be very surprise if more than 2 of the players offered new contracts will be with us next year.
The grass always appears greener on the other side of the fence!

That seems weird if they just offered Bayo an improved contract. Didn't they offer everyone a free trip to Spain with the purchase of a ST. Well that seems a weird way of cutting a budget.

For goodness sake Doc we are NOT going down you heard it here 1st (I damn well hope that does not come back to haunt me)

Out of those we are waiting for a response from i'd be more than happy with Davis, Osman and Thornton signing.

... add Gilbert to that and we're looking stronger still. I'm not really too fussed about Holt. Nice bloke and hardworking 'servant' to the club but we seemed to do alright without him for the two months at the back of the season. By the way, I hope this squad of 'just 18' doesn't include Jacobs, Konstantinou and Walker else we are threadbare.

I had a great holiday !! Half hour pitch on timeshare over breakfast and that was it. £125 for flights. All good. I think a few of the players will sign. Davis and Osman would go if there was no fee attached but if they move to another English club somebody has to pay which i think is unlikely. Unless they decide to go down the Coke route. Off to Scotland for a season and now has 3 championship clubs chasing him. Holt should sign as I can't see him getting a better offer elsewhere. Same with Gilbert.

Holt would be pretty stupid not to sign a 2 year deal here really... Can't see any league one/high-end league two clubs offering him wads of cash. Hopefully Thornton and Gilbert will sign, Thornton's class and Gilbert is a great left-back for this level. Davis and Osman... It'd be nice to see them sign but wouldn't be too gutted if they didn't. Neither are irreplaceable. As for Bayo will miss the guy.
