We'd struggle to find someone as good as the new number 8 who took Osman's place between Christmas and the end of the season. If the usual him hadn't been awful for the opening part of the season he may well have got my vote for the official POTS.

Have the rules on offering contracts changed? A lots been made that the players have until Wednesday until decide but I'm sure in past close seasons clubs had to keep contract offers on the table until sometime mid-late June

It's been self-imposed by Sammo, so if they don't sign we at least have time to find some replacements without buying the rush-jobs we got last year. So you're technically right about June, but if Sammo is a man of his word they'll either be full time Cobblers players or gone by the end of tommorow.

I think your right, I'm sure last season they said if a club offered a player a contract then that contract would have to remain on the table until 16th June

I think the clubs can place any deadline they like on a contract offer - but if they want compensation on an under 24 year old player (provided the club that picks them up is from the same country and the deal is not worse than the one they are currently on) they have to keep the offer open until June 30th (when their current contract expires).
As it appears that our under-24s have been offered a reduced deal there will be no compensation and no need for the club to keep the offer open any longer than they deem necessary.
I don't think this is any different from previous years - it's just that the balance of power used to be more with the player so the clubs didn't want to play hardball.

Can anybody remember what Cardoza said in the Q&A session on the old site when asked about the wage budget?
If my memory serves me correctly it was something like £1.2million wasn't it? So even with a 25% cut that puts it at £900k which should be comfortably competive at this level.
With the departure of 8 players including high earners like Guttridge, Holt and Bayo then i'm quietly confident that Sammo has a fair bit to play with, more than most teams in league 2 anyway!!!

I'm gonna wait until the new football manager comes out, take over att he cobblers and see how I do before I lay my prediction out on whether the wage budget will be enough to take us up. Last year i finished 15th in League 2 first game round and that turned out to be a lot closer than most predicted
