Was trawling through the Pathe News website and within a few minutes found some wonderful Cobblers footage from 3 games- The 1934 cup tie at Preston, the 1951 game at Arsenal( shows Jack English scoring),and the Notts County game at The County Ground in 1947 when Tommy Lawton made his come back. Take a look. Probably more stuff on there and on other archive websites! Surely the FA Cup win over Arsenal must be somewhere.

Nice one thanks for that. I'll have a look. I've got a couple of DVD's from the 60's. Away to Sheffield United and home t Derby County. Always good to watch old Cobblers games.

I've heard about this Sheffield Utd video being around somewhere. How did you obtain it? Is the Derby County one just that brief clip that was on Youtube?

Both are highlights from MOTD about 50 minutes long.

I didn't fully answer your question Sloane. I bought them from a website called footballontap dvds for £3 each. Bargain. They also have other Cobblers games on there.

Thanks for that info. As you say the DVDs are available at £3 each and have ordered both. I remember in the First Division season 1965-66 Anglia Tv showed so many of the Cobblers games on the Sunday. Presume all that historic footage has been lost forever?

If you Google Match Of The Week there's a website that lists every game shown on that programme. Strangely enough Norwich feature quite a bit. The Cobblers were shown a few times over the years though.

Thanks for that link. Checked out some of the footage and so dearly wanted to catch some footage of my great grandad, fanny walden in a cobbs shirt, but could only find it whilst he was at Spurs. Still, happy days.

I was trawling through the internet the other day, and came across on YouTube a 10 minute audio clip of the Cobblers FA Cup tie victory over Arsenal on Jan 4th 1958, apparently recorded off the TV on a reel to reel tape recorder. Fascinating if fuzzy. The commentator was Cliff Michelmore, who also hosted ‘Two Way Family Favourites’ on the radio at Sunday lunchtime. Shame the actual video footage has gone, unless it’s on some dusty shelf in the BBC vaults. Have a listen.

Got a Times write up on that game; good one too.
