Record debt and another season in Div 2. Brill. I bet it looked brighter in 1965 and it certainly did in 86 and 97.
You talk as if YOU owe the money. Chill out, the bailiffs aren't going to come knocking at YOUR door! I can't vouch for 1965 but things didn't look brighter in 86 or 97 regards the clubs future, I think we all knew it was only a matter of time before we were back to where from whence we came. The plan now is when we do eventually escape this cesspit we at the very least stay at the next level. That for Northampton Town FC would be a considerable success.

True to a degree but at least I'm aware of the futility. You on the other hand seem oblivious.

I'm getting old and my memory is not all I would like it to be but apart from a fantastic team what i remember from 86/87 is probably the most embarrassing ground in the football league. Oh and rather like today it wasn't even ours because the cricket always took priority. No one was building us a new stand and most of the town didn't give a f*** one way or the other. The best part of that team was sold off for big bucks, where was the money invested ? You have no f***ing idea whatsoever and neither do I but what I do know is that no new stand was built and two years later we were back where we started. Today someone is doing something.Which is more than most have done over our entire history. Can we just for once enjoy something rather than moaning. You aren't going to do anything useful except telling everyone else what should have been done, but what in fact do you know ? The sum root of f*** all that's what.

Like yours my memory isn't great but I'd swap that season, ground and all, for any season since. So would most people. I'm chilled Marvo, very chilled but it's a public message board. So unfortunately you can read it, ignore it, or reply. You are also right. It's not my money, most of it is not DC's money and whether it gets paid back is probably equal consequence to either of us. I doubt very much that he loses sleep over the bailiffs. Where I probably was silly was allowing myself to get excited about the redevelopment without fully understanding the big picture. Oh and Gibbo sod off you old goat I'm not telling anyone what should have been done and as a Northamptonian reserve my right to moan. I'm sure most of you are not as big a c@cks as you come across on here.

Let's help you're memory. Derek Banks did try to build more than a stand, in fact he was in a different league to DC. You're right the CG was appalling but Banks took the decision to rip off the top of the main stand following the Popplewell report to try hasten a move to Brackmills. The council turned down the plan for a 17500 stadium and Banks was off. DC cannot be compared to any other chairman because no other chairman has been blessed with the position he finds himself. The CG and C ockerell trust has cost the club dearly, those restrictions and constraints no longer apply. DC has no clue to presentation or promotion, key tools to courting commercial interest and success. The broom cupboard proved this, how long does it take to hang up some club colours a shirt, make a presentation of pride. Seeing the 97 trophy tossed to one side tells you everything. How I wish Barry Stonhill could have been given 12m to pay off the VAT and invest, the club would now be showing some pride not more embarrassment.

I'm sorry you're feeling embarrassed. I'm certainly not, I've nothing to be embarrassed about. You must be taking all this personally. Chill out, relax, try to get yourself a life. Hardly anybody cares, I work with over 500 people who support clubs from the very top in the Premiership down to the likes of Kettering and Bedford. Nobody has ever, EVER, even asked me about our ground, let alone took the pi ss out of me about it. Believe me, there are far bigger things to worry about in this world.

Because like most of us he can't resist a good argument even when both sides of it are equally futile. Also, we should all know by now that Marvo is never wrong anyway.

You may have considered it the most embarrassing football ground in the football league Gibbo but most of us would love to still be watching the games in that Hotel End atmosphere. I'd go back tomorrow rather than play at Sixfields.

Derek Banks was previously my favourite Chairman but David Cardoza is close to overtaking him because I judge people by results and DC is providing the club with the best off-field facilities ever FACT!

Well, the council are. DC is just (badly) overseeing it. If it was all coming from his pocket you'd have a point . I won't capitalise fact.

DC appears to be stumbling shambolically into misuse of the only major borrowing opportunity ever made available to the club, while making himself significantly richer at the same time. And we may end up with a slightly better East Stand after a protracted delay. In that sense, you do have a point.

Why do people here seem to think that the council loan magically appeared at the gates of Sixfields - DC's handling of recent events are without doubt questionable, but can't the critics see the loan opportunity occurred because of him. Yes I'm disappointed we haven't got more seats - amazed at the so called price of the East stand but the fact still remains there is still some development, some progress and other than the original move to Sixfields the only such improvement anyone has bought to our club in over 100 years.
