t’s not about money says the club (i.e. KT), on safe standing; the East Stand is not about the money says KT; we have the money say KT/DB to finish the Stand but only it seems from development profits from the surrounding land (where is that £4 million rising to £11 million?).  No, our ground and its improvement has nothing to do with money, at least nothing to do with our owners' money.

"They would lose a fair number of season ticket holders if safe standing is introduced"......Huh???

Really? How many season ticket holders in the North Stand? 400 or 500 perhaps max?  How many of them would buy a standing season ticket? A fair few i'd imagine. How many of those who were not happy would move to the East or West Stand?

They weren't proposing to do the whole stand anyway were they?

Rather than make up bollox like they have in the statement, why not just come out and say that we wouldn't make much if any additional money out of this yet it would of course cost money to convert. That's probably nearer the truth isn't it?

My frustration is that KT has four times issued statements that talks are 'progressing' with NBC BUT the Councillors, who I thought were elected to represent their constituents, have not informed us if those statements are true or false!

I thought there was two parties in the discussions!

What the FOI shows is that since June 2018 when NBC agreed that the CDNL lease needed amending to correct the boundaries between NTFC and CDNL land the delay has been primarily with our owners.  DB/KT declined and to this day have continued to decline to sign the legal document submitted by the Council to correct the boundary.  That took matters to the end of 2018.

In January 2019 KT and, for reasons it may regret, NBC issued a joint statement claiming “positive discussions” were in progress.  There is no evidence in the FOI of what these discussions were. In fact, it was not until July 2019, 7 months latter that there is any indication of anything development wise happening and that was for a hotel project  on NTFC land which was dead in the water before the end of October. In other words and to be fair to the Council there was nothing to decide because there was nothing submitted to it by KT to decide on.

The latest position at the end of December was that the Council were seeking an updated valuation of the development land based on it being used for logistics warehouses.  KT had in late October made a proposal to NBC about the land but what the proposal is/was is redacted on grounds of "commercial sensitivity".  I expect the land valuation is connected to this but it is impossible to comment or speculate further.

My own take is that the Council up until June 2018 were extremely slow but I don’t know how far KT pushed them or if it was a convenient excuse allowing him to blame the Council for the delay.  That is exactly what KT claimed.  Since June 2018 responsibility for the delay has been primarily with our owners who have moved the goalposts on supporters and the Council and are now saying in effect that under their ownership the East Stand will only be completed from development profits or the certainty of those profits.  The safe-standing project is just part of the wider picture of owners unwilling to invest in the infrastructure of our football club.  The explanation put out yesterday that it is not full convinced there is the demand flies in the face of the club’s own survey of North Stand STHs which showed that 85% of those canvassed are in favour.  Another example of KT kicking the can down Walter Tully Way.

Neither the Council nor our owners come out of this situation with any credit but it is for our owners to come forward with development proposals and they have been very slow in doing that.  Given the lack of progress we could be years away from anything happening. If supporters accept that then KT will continue to enjoy an easy ride at NTFC.

Thank you for the detailed opinion.

I think all parties will need to buy some extra large gloves this winter because they have been sitting on their hands for soooooooo long!

Whilst our club and council seem to have taken 18 months so far to change a bit on some leases which have still not been signed off, our old friends Peterborough have managed to negotiate a deal to buy London Road and surrounding land from the council for just over £5m, have identified with the council some land on which to build a new 20000 capacity ground upon with the aim of opening in three years time, this enabling them to sell the newly acquired old ground for demolition and housing development. They’ve done all that in 8 months.
Obviously the Peterborough City Council wheels don’t move as slowly as the NBC wheels!

I'm sure if you asked KT, he would state that he is attempting to mirror what they are doing. You then have to decide if you believe him.

I believe that some people went to the fans advisory meeting and said that they would not renew their STs and would never come back if their seat became a terrace.

They've been arguing with the council since 2012, refused to pay rent in 2013, agreed to buy the ground in 2018 but didnt happen because of a land agreement, then agreed it last year. So yes since both parties agreed its taken 8 months but was going on for years before.

Maybe, but their aim is to build a new stadium, not to complete one crappy stand.

You are going to set the Anti KT brigade off with that comment.

So might only take us 2 months then instead of 8 to finalise the agreement.
I was more pointing out that their process also had years of stand off between the council and the owners over the land before an agreement was made and wasnt just the 8 months as was suggested.

There is no comparison on any level.

We had the standoff when it came to changing the leases....but I thought this was agreed 18 months ago.......just hasn't been signed off by the owners yet we are told. There was of course work done to "normalise" the leases for many months and years before that.

There has been nothing to stop KT finishing the East Since since the day he took over the club.  He is an expert at kicking the can down the road and will continue to do just that for as long as he is allowed to by our placid supporter base.

Our owners have the money but they don't have the will.
