I’ve only had the chance of a brief glance on here and just to let anyone interested know the plans we have are still very much on the go however we are all simply flat off our feet!

For all of us who work here in hotels, restaurants or hospitality in our specific areas at least demand is through the roof and new and exciting opportunities are emerging in the new landscape. Since I last posted I have myself acquired a prominent beachfront bar restaurant with accommodation completely out of the blue, this I’m now drafting plans for its redevelopment and re-launch in August. That was before yesterday’s announcement that all cannabis products are to be legalised for recreational use this year on the island, its preparing to be the tropical Amsterdam! I’m sorry to share all this but hopefully you understand why time is limited for side projects.

Some of the comments are hugely encouraging and if a few of the diehards on here feel the time is right for a truly captivating and exciting project then that’s all we need!

Fundamentally this is a local and wider community driven development. Designed to benefit the community first and foremost year round, yet includes benefits to the football club through much needed long term regular investment. The aim is to provide an impressive building to showcase local produce through its own brewery cafe and restaurant. Through fairs and produce markets, provide indoor sports facilities and also deliver a superb live music entertainment venue with state of the art sound and facilities.

From the pitchside looks every bit as impressive as any two tier stand separated by a row of hospitality boxes, from the hill a large welcoming open café environment with an outside balcony for fair weather enjoyment. That’s as close as a description as I can muster tonight!

I’m confident the plans will excite enough individual investors from all over with its comprehensive benefit package to make it a truly community financed enterprise.

The north stand car park isn’t going anywhere fast but I do hope we can get it all finalised as soon as possible, it will be interesting from then on in!

Let’s give them a little bit longer on the east stand first….

A few months have gone by now but have you spoken with David yet and if so was he positive about your plans to redevelop his property?

Has the revised red book valuation been received GPC?

I believe it was due this week.

If you don't know yet, can you perhaps find out from one of the councillors now on the trust board, who can clarify this along with the revised valuation?

Thanks

The Trust have been told nothing, so we assume that the valuation has not come through yet. We have enquired with the Conservative Councillor...... the Labour Councillor attended one Trust Board meeting and hasn't been seen since.

“Kelvin has also since spoken to the chairman at Plymouth to find out more how that operates, and we expect a follow up call or Zoom with Tom and the group as they develop more details on the project.”
Why would KT do that if it was a fully closed door?

Basic summary for me "I've got a great idea, here's a load of pretty pictures, now you go and spend your money to see if it can be done".
I'm hoping and expecting the SMM and his friends / partners are not only working on a scheme but also putting together a business case. If the club then block or prevent that then I'll agree with you.
The NHE is little more than a few people with some fancy software and an imagination getting way more air time than they deserve.

I completely understand the reticence on some parts and despite the business plan yet to be finalised, I make no apologies about posting on here the fact there are plans afoot, I’m a lifelong supporter so I’m absolutely behind these plans and struggling with the wait to complete them.

Just to reiterate for anyone who missed my previous posts. I’m an hotelier, bar and restaurant owner here on Koh Phangan, my group of friends are all either owners of hospitality businesses or work in concept, design and construction for hotel and restaurant development companies around SE Asia.
Amongst our group we also include sound technicians, festival promoters and DJs who have worked with many of the top UK artists. Together we have run hundreds of F&B businesses in the UK and Asia for large chains and as individuals. Many of them are ardent football fans too, so that’s the background.

During lockdowns we had more time together than usual, it’s not often we can meet all at the same time, unlike Boris we were allowed to meet for private gatherings. Of course the conversation was dominated about work and the future of our industry plus a few other subjects I can’t mention…
One question asked which got us all thinking was if, god forbid, we all had to return to the UK, what business in our sector would be successful. The absolute conclusion was a multifaceted operation, flexible but with a clear modern concept and statement of intent. The demand for traceable, sustainably sourced and high quality products cannot be ignored, providing an experience is also key, tomorrow’s world is quality over quantity and that probably includes the travel industry too.

It’s clear that craft beers, wine and cocktails lead the way in the drinks sector, diners demand locally sourced produce with a provenance. Café culture, co-work, 5G with intimate space for daytime whilst the future of live entertainment maybe still in some flux, smaller specialist venues where artists and guests enjoy the maximum experience will win out. Many older, traditional venues are now probably obsolete with recent developments far too difficult or costly to adapt for new regulations and customer confidence.

It was my fault in mentioning our clubs….issues. Shortly after I had finally explained the entire saga, plans from the New Hotel End project came to light and the subsequent noises from the club and council regarding this piece of land “deemed for community use” interested many of the group.
Armed with a lockdown project many of the group pulled figures from some of their successful projects, concepts and businesses. Research, development, P&L, yield percentages, staffing costs, supplier arrangements, product demand graphs, charts. These all from established recognisable High Street chains and private enterprises. No stone unturned.

The ability to combine several of these businesses under one roof and in a prominent location without restrictions on access and proximity cannot be underestimated. Through a haphazard and complicated situation with legal wranglings clouding the way, the football club, club owners and the council may just have sleepwalked and stumbled into an amazing opportunity, unique to Sixfields.

From the initial but unviable NHE project, to the continuing finalisation of the east stand plans, the announcement from the club over the north stand to the recent review on club governance, supported by KT, it appears as we advance further along the corridor instead of resistance we find the doors are being flung wide open to financial innovation within football. The current model of football club ownership does not work and we know it. A football club of our size cannot exist on an individual’s generosity and prosper.

We have the unique opportunity to create a first in bringing the community and local football club truly together.  This piece of community designated land should be used for exactly that, a proud and prominent structure which benefits the local community year round first and foremost, we already have an excellent partnership with the university which we hope this will expand and develop to provide opportunities for students both commercially and for leisure.

You will never sell or excite with mediocrity and I’m absolutely convinced that when these plans are complete they will be impossible to ignore and sufficient “community investors” will be found to launch the project.

If, the biggest word in the universe, this comes off, the football club owners would have any revenue generated from the 2000 extra seats for whatever they wish to do with. The profits generated from within the venue will go directly to the football team and academy for development from grass roots to first team and would receive significant regular and guaranteed investment, irrespective of who owns the football club. I personally think we have a dream local team at the helm and given considerable funds to play with, our success on the pitch will notch up a level or two. The council would benefit too from local taxes, business rates and so on, but the local community would be the greatest beneficiaries with a superb welcoming community facility, through job creation and from money available for local projects.

As one or two here are sceptical on land ownership, dealing with lease holders etc, I will just say that between us we have all successfully negotiated complicated large developments on leased land here in Asia with the extra barriers to culture, language and financial exchange mechanisms but the bottom line always wins out.

It may take just a little longer than I first expected and unfortunately it seems I will not have the time to fly back as planned next month, however we are confident we can attract a recognisable name or two to support the projects release and I’m certainly not to be put in front of the media so definitely worth waiting a few more weeks for!

Here’s an uncomfortable truth when banging on about land that will benefit the club.
When DB and KT arrived we had a south car park.

Unless I'm mistaken, we had a bit of wasteland that we rented to use as parking on matchdays. The owner then sold that land to someone else who wasn't willing to rent it to us. I'm not sure that's something you can bash the owners over the head with.

How anyone can seriously support our owners is beyond me.
They have kept the club ticking over for the last 7 years, resided over 2 needless relegations invested nothing into the infrastructure whatsoever, and now fail to invest in the playing side too, it’s completely transparent that they will leave as soon as they have the profit from the land grab and yet some still support them.

Il correct you.
The owners came in and very quickly purchased the land behind the east stand.
The south car park was put up for sale ( the tell tale sign being the large FOR SALE sign outside said land).

The owners did not show the same eagerness in acquiring this land as they did when acquiring the east stand land.

We subsequently now have less land owned/rented by the club than before they arrived.
I fail to see how this is progress.

Anyway any idea when this redevelopment is going to start…..

Me: Because there is no viable alternative.
You: Yes there is there was loads of people but he lied and tricked us
Me: So where are they now
You: He wants too much for the club
Me: If they could afford to do the things you want, and are astute business people they will be able to work out a deal to propel us forward
You: KT is just interested in a land deal
Me: Thats fair enough, he's allowed to make some money, hopefully when the deal is approved money will start coming in to the others parts of the ground its needed
You: We need a striker and this stupid committee dont know what they are doing and we need one out before we can get one it
Me: F**k that was a quick change or argument. Yes we do. Agree the commitee need to prove themselves but I trust Graham Carr's knowledge and they have proven themselves with Koiki option in contract and one has just left so hopefully good news this week

Trouble is Manny you do have some good ideas, but they tend to get lost under the Boll0cks you keep spouting.
So what will we find out soon enough ?  is it the certain Lockdown you promised by September at the latest? Or something else you just cant get right ?

I think my lockdown prediction was looking odds on in the late autumn, good old Boris played a blinder and kept everything open.
Let’s put it this way, if the land deal goes tîts up, which it could well do, I’m reliably informed David will take his ball home as he won’t want to play anymore.

In all honesty, who could blame him if he did?
