Oh. Let's see which team wins, because this is not an individual event. So the septic did not win all those times on his own and , obviously as most sane people thought at the time he was cheating like everybody else in this totally pointless sport.

Great win for Cav today especially having to do it on his own with all the focus on Wiggins...Lets hope for the yellow come the next three weeks.

I have every idea what a drug riddled "sport" is and that is why it is so pointless. Oh I know. Let's wait for a few years to see this years winner get stripped of the title for drug taking.

If this year's winner is Bradley Wiggins, that won't be the case.

Cav crashes, dusts himself down, gets back on and rides over the finish line. Moreover, he'll be back on the bike tomorrow and in contention for a stage win. No excuses about tweaked hamstrings or taking it easy.

What does 'Tour de France' mean in English?

Hey singcobb, you did this last year as well in the same thread but didn't respond when I pointed out that perhaps football is also 'drug riddled'. Cycling has a problem but it is also the easy scapegoat and at least it tries to lay bare it's cheats, we don't see that in (m)any other sports. Maybe try googling Juventus drugs, or Barcelona to see how oh so clean football is. Back to the actual Tour, think Cav will do very well to retain green this year, he is a lot slimmer and lost some top-end speed, plus doesn't have the train. Sagan to win the green jersey and Cav to probably notch up a couple more stage wins. Would like to see Wiggins win yellow but he might have peaked too early and his team-mates seem to be having a lot of punctures/crashes already which doesn't bode well.

I agree there is drugs in football, but not as rife or as public as in the push bike race of france. Until such time as the governing body can be seen to actually making headway into the problem and every year the number of drug cheats decreases I just can't take it seriously.

Hell of a pile up today 25km from home. Then they change a wheel or get on a new bike and just ride on. Some of them were in a right state.

Yes they are catching them but only years later when they've had the chance to rake in all the money etc.

There are arguments on both sides. In my opinion, the problem is not that cyclists are being caught doping, but rather their national cycling federations are responsible for punishment and the inconsistency that arises, hence the pathetic two year ban by the Spanish imposed on Alberto Contador and Pedro Delgado before him. This is no different now to athletics where the GB association wanted life bans (surely the only punishment?) whereas everyone else has argued for two year bans. You also have alluded to Lance Armstrong, but let's not forget that he is most drug tested sportsman in any sport in history. Football also has its parallels: let's not forget that Rio Ferdinand and there is at least one ex Cobblers' player who is banned sine die - and he would have got away with it by all accounts if our manager, who knew the anti-doping team were at Sixfields, had been given the appropriate nod by the player and sent home from training. Meanwhile I'm off to the Pyrenees on Wednesday to see history in the making in the mountains. Watch out for a NTFC/Wiggo flag of St George on the slopes of the Col de Peyresourde next Wednesday, and near the finish in Peyragudes on Thursday.

Have a great time. And good luck to Bradley Wiggins - you have to admire anyone with those mutton-chop side whiskers !
