Here's another stunner for you - I don't hate Peterborough.

Yes there's a rivalry, but knowing one or two Posh fans its a friendly one not blind hatred. I'd rather save my hatred for something worthwhile.

To help your education - its called 'rugby football' because it is a version of football that was derived from the original football (which is vastly different to the way we play today) and all players can and do use their feet to kick the ball if they so choose.  Wink

You no doubt believe the William Webb-Ellis bulls*** story of him 'one day' picking up the ball..and suddenly running the length of the pitch with it under his arm...Teacher would have cuffed him around the ears..his school pals call him a twat..one might imagine!
Don't need an education from you..thanks!

"Footie lads" and "style"  Grin Nice one. Unfortunately for you Coolcat the reality of Franklins Gardens doesn't quite align with the class-hatred fuelled image you've created for yourself. Yes there are more Range Rovers in and around the vacinity on a Saints matchday than there are for a Cobblers match but the vast majority of their fans are normal people who are often involved at the grass roots level of the game and simply love their chosen sport. In my experience rugby fans generally have a better understanding of the game than their football counterparts because more have played the game on a serious level. Your angst and exasperation at the Saints, their success and their followers is hugely amusing but I dread to think what effect it's having on your health  Grin

Come on admit it. It was funny when The Saints got tonked though wasn't it.

Maybe for those of you consumed by petty jealousy it was, however for those of us who are proud of our town's heritage and believe that the town should aspire to greater things it was something of a disappointment. Cobblers fans of a certain ilk should stop revelling in mediocrity, it's what makes us a joke for so many of the town's residents.

I'm joining this discussion pretty late but surely a sporting team from Northampton excelling on an international stage can only be a good thing for the town?Huh? Can't grasp why there is any petty jealousy towards the Saints? All they are doing is raising the profile of the town.

I've lived in NZ for 8 years now but I am originally from Sywell. I stayed up last weekend till silly o'clock to watch the match and even subscribed to the Rugby Channel. They lost but was a bloody good match and got Northampton on the Sports news on TVNZ the following day. Who cares if it was for rugby and not football!?!?

Did the same people berating the Saints fans for driving 4x4s etc...also dish it out to the Brawn F1 fans when they claimed the F1 Constructors crown? They were a Northampton team....or how about Force India winning their first point?

I'm proud as hell to say where I am from when people ask me because (football aside if we're being honest) Northampton has a very good sporting heritage in most major sports.

You'd have thought people would have thought to themselves "hmm saints can't play euro knockout games at their ground. We need ours doing, they need theirs doing, neither are allowed. They're able to apply more pressure and the council cant allow one without the other. I hope they do as well as they can'. But they haven't, so I'll think it for them.

This is how embarrassing the majority of Saints supporters I know of are when I used to live in Oundle, They 'supported' The Saints and The Posh.

Of course not Coolcat. I'm privately educated myself so am fully aware of exactly what teachers would have done in those days  Wink

Some people must just be taking the piss.

Have any of you "haters" been in the vicinity of the Gardens on a match day before? There is no longer a class divide between the two sports. If anything, you have to be pretty well off to go to a football game these days. Only in football would you have to pay £20 to watch a 3rd division match...

I find this very hard to believe , there are very few junior rugby clubs in comparison to junior football clubs. There are only 3 or 4 rugby clubs in Northampton,2 in Wellingborough and 1 for Rushden & Higham and 1 in Kettering, just think of the number of junior football clubs in this area ,probably getting on for 100.

Well that's just my experience, maybe it's the exception rather than the rule but there certainly isn't the ignorance of the game and its rules at a rugby ground that you find at football grounds.

Fair comment!   Wink   The word 'hate' is semantics..**** me off lets say! Opinions will overlap into the area of stereotyping of course. Nevertheless, In Oxford there is a pub, Royal Blenheim, which is brillant for real ale..but refuses to show anything footie! That's the kind of toff prejudice I detest..if not hate! Wink

Sorry, to clarify..said pub is total rugby pub, run by a Welsh rugby fan...rugby, baseball, darts, tiddlywinks, more rugby..but no football!

Haha - you would really detest a weekend in Wales when the 6 Nations is on. Finding a pub that'll show a top Premier League game is virtually impossible!

"Footie lads" and "style"

Style is very subjective. Some people buy over priced waxed jackets, some go for over priced names. Others model Next and some go for F&F. My mum used to buy me Dunlop green flash at Liddys for £1.50 a pair, whilst the rich kids sported Slazenger pumps. I think Fred Perry polo's were around £3 and everyone wore them. The yoof today certainly have very little style (IMO) and anyone who sp*nks £200 on a jumper or £50 on a polo shirt could certainly never be classed as very 'cool', although most settle for cheap copies off Ebay.
I prefer Debenhams (Soul Trader for shoes) these days but then again don't claim to be cool.
