So Sammo has hinted at a new centre back.   This to be would suggest that Hinton is a long way off fitness and he is not convinced about Harris or needs him up front.

This looks to me as if it is Beckwith is the one who is in the firing line.  I am starting to get concerned about him as he is very accident prone and still likes to play suicidal back passes to the keeper.

I'd say centre back is the least of our worries.

Although we could do with someone as cover.

Agreed.  I still cannot believe Sammo is persisting with Guinan though!!

We do need another centre back and not just for cover, I'd like to think we can attract one better than both Beckwith and Holt, then we can get some real competition for places.

As I said on another thread the only difference between us and the top sides in this league is that we lack a clinical finisher. Purcell may turn out to be the missing jigsaw piece (too early to tell really, with about 50 mins of league action under his belt all season) but we need another striker either way, either as the main man or to provide competition for places. Not convinced we need another centre-half unless Hinton's tendonitis is really serious to the point where he's going to be more of a club ambassador than a player this season.

Even if Hinton was fit, we need another centre half.  That has been glaringly obvious since pre-season. As Terry Angus said after the match, Beckwith and Holt look full of mistakes which will give any opposition hope of nicking one against us.  Wycombe didn't have much pace themselves up against us yesterday, but we made some atrocious defensive errors (Rodgers, who was robbed a number of times in dangerous positions, and Hall, whose suicidal cross penalty area pass nearly cost us, included).   And Sammo said it was one of two new faces he needs and even mentioned a championship defender on loan.

Of course we do and of course it has.

You can see the lack of footballing knowledge by the comments of some on here.

beckwith looked like the ref had just blown when he had the ball passed to him yesterday , i had my head in my hands at some points.

rodgers did give the ball away a few times , to be fair there was a couple of times he saved the team from blushes

Lack of knowledge, its different opinions Marvo, people see things differently, surely you realise that by now.

I think Striker is a def priority.

In the centre half department we have Holt and Beckwith, the former is new to the position. The back ups are an injured Hinton and an unproven Harris. So one centre back avaialble with more than 6 months experience in the position.

In the striking department we have Guinan, Purcell, Mckay and Herbert plus again an unproven Harris and Konstantinou.

It's a definate lack of footballing nous.

We've conceded 8 goals in 6 games. Yeah the defence is doing just fine.  Roll Eyes

We need a centre back and a striker, it shouldn't be a case of one or the other. If i had to make a choice however, I would rather have a striker. A strikeforce of Guinan and Mckay is toothless at best and won't win us games, the defence is looking better, but a bit of cover is without doubt needed.

We've scored 2 goals in the league, both penalties, etc etc etc.

Your way or no way eh.

You don't score, you don't win. You don't concede, you don't lose.

If we hadn't conceded in the two games we scored the two goals, we'd have been in the play-off positions now with 7 points.

Look, it's not about one or the other but anybody who doesn't think we need another centre back is living in cloud cuckoo land. Thankfully Sammo isn't one of them.

I actually think we need both. You don't score you don't win but then if you don't concede you don't lose!

Suprising how nobody has any inside information on who the supposed players are though...

Cardoza says that no extra money will available unless the liverpool match is televised so it seems unlikely that we'll be able to bring both a centre half and striker. Given the choice I'd rather see goals than clean sheets.

Seems odd how no extra money is available....considering we were told they only budget for 1 game in each cup competition...

I take it our share of the gate receipts will be used to pay down more of DC's loan then.
