As with a previous Wolverhampton away game, is the Trust or Sixfields Travel arranging a special train? If coach availability and safe parking is a problem then 700 or 800 on a train would cut the hassle!

I wouldn't be surprised if London Midland themselves put a couple of trains on straight through to Liverpool. Would make good business sense.

The main Liverpool train station is a fair trek to Anfield as I remember it though. No problem on the way to the match, you can jump in a cab for £2 each if there is 4/5 of you, but getting back is likely to be a bit more difficult, especially at 10 at night. But I have to say that I would probably go on any football trains that were put on.

They would have to put a special train on as I have already looked into getting a train to Liverpool and you cant get back to Npton until Thursday morning (assuming its a Wednesday night game) due to changes

Liverpool/Everton specials were always escorted (by bus) back to Edgehill station...otherwise Lime St 2-3 miles.

I'll go much higher than £1 !!
1. The trains can get to Liverpool Lime Street but no further (they're not passed/compatible with the Merseyrail system)...Lime Street is 3 miles from the ground. 2. Crew-wise, they'd need at least 4 drivers per train....as Northampton drivers only sign as far as Crewe, and the times involved would mean drivers taking the train up there would be out of time by the time it came to the return journey. Same problem with conductors. 3. Rolling-stock wise, they just dont have the units to pull from the normal Wednesday evening peak in order to run football specials to Liverpool. How many 220 seat units should they use?? 3, 4, 5??? There isnt the spare capacity!

It wasn't a problem for British Rail in 1958. And it was a snowy Winter day. Thatcher, eh?

For anyone travelling from London (like me) - megatrain.com have returns for £16 plus 50p booking fee leaving Euston on Wednesday 22 Sept at 12.07 - returning from Liverpool Thursday 1.38pm.
If the game is on Tuesday - the same trains on Tuesday/Wednesday can be booked for £10 return plus 50p booking.
