Cardiff were missing a lot of players in this game, but it was an impressive performance from the Town. They played with a lot of energy and hunger and pinned Cardiff back with their pressing. In attack, Clive Platt dominated in the air and linked play well and Cobblers often used long diagonal balls from the full-backs to supply him. The team also proved to be very flexible tactically, Boothroyd started with a standard 4-4-2 with Ben Harding on the left of the midfield, this did expose Widdowson to a lot of 1v1 situations, but the full-back was excellent at defending those. Boothroyd changed the system to a 4-3-1-2 when he introduced Mukendi for Hackett before finishing the game in a 4-5-1 with Nicholls and Mukendi on the flanks and Akinfenwa up top alone. This tactical flexibility, high work-rate and good blend of physical power and skill should give us a better season then last.

Can someone confirm whether or not the Cardiff fans chanted "black jack bastard" at Bayo or "fat Jack bastard"?

It was simply; 'You Jack bastard' Hope you're not trying to stir things by false racist allegations! The Cardiff fans were their diehard loyals, obviously no more likely to break into racist chanting than Cobblers fans at Shrewsbury!  Roll Eyes

Just seen the highlights and admittedly it was only on my phone but can anyone please give me a clue what the penalty was actually given for?

It must have been for standing next to a player that fell over. The rest of the highlights was the Ben Tozer throw in show.

You always look around when a player goes down in the box but I don't remember a single Cardiff player stop playing or even appeal for it.

It might be a result of too much loud music but I did think at the time that it sounded like "black" but chose to give the Red Dragon fans the benefit of the doubt given that I was at the North end of the West Stand and chants are often difficult to make out anyway

Could someone tell me who was captain? Langmead?
Have we made a decision on who will be captain permanently yet?

Well there were less than 3000 people there so I assume they didn't open the east stand to save costs? Just a guess, I wasn't able to go so I really don't know.

Hopefully we'll have either confirmed a captain or take it that whoever wears the armband tomorrow is captain.
