List of potential replacements who are free agents:
Aliadiere Was talking to Cardiff and trialled again at Middlesbrough but still a free agent Akinbyi Playing non-league football for Winster Wasps!! Febian Brandy Clubless Benjani Now at Blackburn Darius Vassell Still clubless after talking to Leeds and latterly Notts County Jan Venegoor of Hesslink Joined Rapid Vienna on deadline day
Bas Savage (The most realistic prospect) played as a triallist for Torquay reserves a couple of weeks ago but was not taken on
Judging on that list on the link provided by Greenleys, Bas Savage is our most realistic prospect, and to be fair he has the physical attributes required, and at the very least if he did score then we would have his dancing celebration!

Wasn't Vassell playing for Boston a few years back.
I'd imagaine that all those players would demand a very hefty weekly wage. I'm not saying that I don't agree with the original poster re Cardoza splashing the cash but I don't think we can expect to be paying top League 1 wages for any players anytime soon.

The thing is with some of those players (e.g. Aliadiere), maybe we could agree a deal where they come in on reduced wages, but if a championship club came in for them with a decent offer then we would let him go - the players need a club to get them back on their feet, and we need a striker who is much better than what we have - Aliadiere fits the bill.
In the event that anyone from the club is reading this thread, sign Aliadiere on a 4 month deal!

A deal like the Gabor Gypes one...would be ideal for both parties.

Good idea, some wage is better than none, with a release clause that benefits both parties........but in reality?

Leon Constantine is still available. Have to agree with Greenleys though, without an out-and-out goalscorer in the team we can't fall into the trap of kidding ourselves we're "too good to go down", as in 2008/09.

Just been on the C&E webchat and Jefferson Lake said we have invited a non contracted player to play for the reserves next week. Let the speculation begin!!

Myrie-Williams could be a decent acquisition to be honest.

I'm confident Sammo will sign the right striker. He's done alright with his signings so far hasn't he?
I find the notion that 'wikipedia says he doesn't score a lot so write him off' ridiculous. It means nothing. Surely we've all been watching football for long enough to know it doesn't work like that. We had first hand experience of that with Constantine. Marc Richards was in no way prolific when he was here but I'm sure Vale fans are happy they didn't turn him away based on stats.

I thought that too. I now realise I was thinking of Julian Joachim though.

Vassell's most recently been homeless in Turkey playing the occasional football at the weekend.
