Sampson has said we need two strikers. Anyone who has ever seen Guinan knows one of these must be a target man. From the list of centre-forwards available, only two really seem to fit the bill in my opinion. Jeremie Aliadiere and Bas Savage. With no disrespect to Savage, I would much prefer Aliadiere. But I seriously doubt that Aliadiere would be interested in a move here, and even if he was, we most likely would not be able to afford his wages. Bas Savage on the other hand, would probably be interested if we approached him and would probably be affordable.
I think that I read a post on here that we were going to bring in a trialist in the next week or two, who is probably Savage. Is this true, and would Savage be a decent signing for the club?

No chance we'll get Aliadiere.
Looking more at strikers in the Savage range, I would say... There's quite a few available (Leon Knight, Barry Hayles and Izale McLeod come to mind straight away). I doubt whoever we sign will get a resounding reception of approval here, though.

Although Leon Knight could do a job at this level, he seems to be a similar player to McKay, and our priority must be to bring in a target man. Unfortunately I think that Hayles is just too old now, Guinan is 3 years his junior and look at how he is getting on, and I thought that McLeod had signed for Barnet
EDIT: Mcleod is still a free agent, my bad!

Why did this need a new thread, and not post on summer transfers?

This could have been posted on the summer transfers, but there is so much talk about Bas Savage that this deserves its own thread. Also if it has its own thread then the club might be more likely to read it and take our advice!

I would personally take a punt on Tresor Kandol he is unattached good in the air the only stumbling block would be the wages thing again but he has proved himself at League 1 & 2 level

Would've been worth a punt but he has signed for Spainish 2nd division side Albacete. Can anyone confirm/deny Bas Savage is the trialist or have the club kept it under wraps?

He does offer the dance moves, but what he will offer in footballing terms is Strength and Height. Admittedly he hasn't been the most prolific man in his career, but i'd bet a house on him holding the ball up better than Guinan. He is the like for like replacement for Akinfenwa. Whether he scores 20+ goals is irrelevant if he can bring others into the game, and be the 'link man' that Terry Angus believes that Guinan is.

The striker situation married with the start we have had would have seen other clubs chairmen start to get itchy about our esteemed manager! He impressed us all with the Bayo ultimatum, then proceeded to not sign a replacement for whatever reason. Of cousre there are many reasons for players not wanting to come here, but surely playing for a manager who is relatively untries and untrusted could well be one of them?

The stumbling block mentioned is more of a show stopper.

Decent strikers cost money and we don't have any!?!? It was said that we had reached our playing budget when we brought in J.Johnson so assuming when the loan goalie goes back to spurs this frees up some wages to bring in someone?

How long are we going to be waiting to see a signing? If it is a loan then obviously the loan window doesn't open for a few more days but if it is a free transfer then hopefully it should be wrapped up so the player is eligible for Southend.
