Id hardly call the Town Centre an outlying district. It's 20 minutes brisk walk from Sixfields to the bottom of Gold Street, and it'll do you good.I just don't understand people today, they just don't seem to want to walk anywhere. When I was courting Mrs Ted I used to walk her home from Far Cotton to the Cock Hotel every night of the week.
They didnt have transport in those days, does she still like the Cock ted ?

Thankyou Mr. Self Righteous! If you read post carefully..never did I say it was an outlying district...DID say: ''not the end of the world" Frequently make the walk..just a suggestion to make things easier... ..Presume you won't be using your car again for any short(ish) journies? Cock!

I went Rileys for a few games of pool before a match then walked up to sixfields, the walk wasn't really to bad.

It costs £11 to get a cab one way from Wootton to the town centre...£6 is good value for a return to Dav imo!
For a cramped little bus that takes about 35 mins to do a 15 min journey (because it stops off in various villages and goes at about 20mph down the dual carriageway), only runs twice hourly, and is usually either early or late, it's not good value for money at all imo. If it was a Cab that took you straight to where you wanted to go, whenever you wanted, I'd agree it's good value. Like I said, having to pay £6 for a (unreliable) bus probably puts some off and ensures others are spending cash on buses that they may otherwise spend on things like a programme, which helps the club. I can tell you now, if they ran a coach from Daventry town centre direct to Sixfields it'd probably be full every week (so long as it was priced reasonably of course).

In all fairness, it'll only be cost effective if enough people take advantage of the buses. With the ridiculous cost of fuel, people should think twice about leaving their cars at home, plus you can have a drink without the worry of getting caught drink driving. However,I think you personally may well be disapponted ,as It's unlikely that they're going to be providing a bus service from Bellinge.
They used to run buses from Cotton but they kept stoning the windows and stealing the wheels. In any case, don't you Cotton Enders get to games on nicked motorbikes riding across the paths and meadows? We know you're from Cotton because you don't wear helmets.

Ask for a half return to sixfields, gets you the kids price. I'm nearly 18 and haven't been questioned once That would be fraud, wouldn't it, or at least part of the reason why fares for honest people are so high.

If I had a job I would pay full price but I simply can't afford to. I'm still in full time education and shouldn't be paying the same price as an adult who has a full time job and is earning a full wage. As nut said it's a very poor service that isn't worth the money. All I know is that I would rather give my money to my local football club than a poor overpriced bus service. If I paid full price it would not make any difference to the prices whatsoever.

Its a good idea, I can't for one moment see it being cost effective though, or even close enough to being cost effective to make it worthwhile to please the fans. Its quite ironic that fans are moaning that the public buses go through villages etc, but what do you think a football bus would do, fans would then want picking up from their village/ on their door step. I can see a byus from the town centre being a decent idea, but there are already enough public buses that I can't see the club doing it, and maybe form Daventry there may be the demand for a football bus, but personally i doubt you would fill a coach from Daventry every home game, and even if one was put on, it wouldnt be any cheaper than getting on a public bus.

Oh dear, twice an hour? When you have to put up one bus an hour to Wellingborough and a bus TWICE a DAY to Northampton I reckon that's pretty good service. Oh and no busues on a Sunday! Yeah I'd use a bus service if it picked up from Wollaston and was cheap.

One from the town centre would be nice too since our ground is stuck on the outskirts.
Hang on a minute, wouldn't that run the risk of taking trade away from the town centre.

I don't mind it going through all the villages, I wouldn't mind it never being on time and I even wouldn't mind being packed in like a tin of sardines and sometimes having to stand, if it didn't cost six bloody quid. That's probably not very much to you but it's a lot of money to me. personally i doubt you would fill a coach from Daventry every home game, and even if one was put on, it wouldnt be any cheaper than getting on a public bus.
I think it'd usually be full. I can tell you that just by looking at how many get on a coach to go to away games. The independents pick up from Dav on away days; only been with them a few times but even for games like Bury away last season, there were a good 10-15 of us waiting at the bus stop; there's about half a dozen from Dav who go reasonably regularly on the trust travel as well (I'm one of them) and I'd imagine there's a few who go on Sixfields Travel Club coaches too. Consider a decent number probably make their own way up and you're probably looking at about 40-50 of a 300-strong away support at places like Bury coming from Daventry & district. That's a significant chunk of the crowd, and assuming the same ratio can be applied to home games there's probably 500 or so from the area that go to Sixfields regularly. Don't tell me you couldn't find enough to fill a 40-seat coach on matchdays, especially if it picked up from Weedon, Flore and Upper Heyford on the way in.

Well I have no idea where you decided to pull that argument from. I'm just questioning how much cheaper you think a football bus would be. I highly doubt it would be much less than £5 return per person when you consider the cost of hiring a bus/coach for the afternoon. And you may not be complaning about it going through all the villages, but you can bet people would say its a great idea but then complain when it has to go to various spots around town instead of going straight to sixfields. Its a great idea, but i don't think our fanbase allows to it work, maybe I'm wrong, who knows?

We won't know until they give it a go...
On the surface it seems like a positive move to me. If it goes tits up then knock it on the head....
Agreed. The truth is, if they did put a coach on, there'd be a lot of interest because a large chunk of our support comes from Northampton's satellite towns, and they be competing with a poor, overpriced service in Stagecoach. I personally think the demand would be there, but it would be even higher, particularly among fans under the age of 18, if they could get away with paying £3 or £4.

Daventry does seem to have quite a high proportion of Cobblers fans, I see more people wearing Cobblers merchandise in it's town centre than i do in Northampton's itself.... So i agree with Nut (for once ) a bus from Daventry, reasonably priced will be full most home games. I certainly know myself and a couple others would use it!!!
