I would have thought that Billy was on a fairly low wage when he was here. He looked a bit raw and lightweight but always looked like he had potential. Ironically, his best spell here was playing up front with Bayo. If GJ had give him another year that I thought he deserved he could be playing off Bayo now and could be an asset for us in this transfer window... But GJ knows best I was a fan of Mackay and one of few that made any sort of protest when he was let go. Although to be fair GJ's decision was vindicated by the 3 in 24 at Inverness. On a human level I'm really pleased he's doing so well now.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill called Billy up for next month's friendly against Malta. Striker Kyle Lafferty, who is suspended for the next World Cup qualifier against Russia, has been left out so "in-form Inverness striker Billy McKay" may be given a chance to play in the friendly and then against Russia. Great to see him doing so well. He will always be loved for that goal at Anfield, and I even enjoyed this goal against Celtic

From the Daily Record 3rd December 2012
"BILLY McKAY admits it will take a lot to top the night he scored at Anfield to help little Northampton to a famous cup shock win over the mighty Liverpool....
McKay is no stranger to dramatic cup occasions after scoring for the Cobblers two years ago as the League Two side stunned Liverpool at Anfield to knock them out on penalties in the Carling Cup after a 2-2 draw.
That is the highlight of his career but with Caley still in both cup competitions this season he senses something special which might even eclipse that night on Merseyside.
He said: “I got a goal against Liverpool for Northampton in the League Cup when we won at Anfield.
“I’ve got a few pictures and my top from that game but they’re just memories, I’m trying to focus on Inverness.
“That goal would be my best cup memory so far and the only thing that would top that would be winning a trophy with Caley. We’re in the semi-finals of the League Cup and still in the Scottish Cup so hopefully we can get to a final and I can create an even better memory."

Billy McKay named as a sub for tonights Northern Ireland friendly in Malta. Will Grigg from Walsall named ahead of him in the starting 11 but McKay is expected to feature in the game. Come on Norn Iron
