after conceding two quick goals yesterday why do we always kick the ball back to the opposition? it never works or very rarely work so why do they always do it. surely it makes sense to just keep hold of the god dam ball because the possesion i hard enough to keep let alone give it back to the other side. think that's my rant over.

I have asked this question directly and the answer I received was "we do not want to put ourselves under pressure straight after conceding a goal"

We've been doing that since I started watching us in the 1980's.

Its the same as bringing everybody back for corners , clearing the ball and then having nobody up field to compete for it. Puts you straight back under pressure. Its either a unique Cobblers " shoot yourself in the foot " type thing or just crap tactics.

A-f***ing-Men! This is the game Aidy plays, purely percentages.

The idea is to try and get them pinned back in their own half from the word go, is it not? There's definitely a logic to it anyway.

A lot of teams pull everyone back for corners and I agree with you 100% it really is a crap tactic. Put Jake Robinson and Chris Hackett on the half way line ,they aren't going to win too many defensive headers , and the opposition have to pull 3 players back , less people in our area to score !!

To really play the percentages, I would get the ball as quickly as possible to Hackett or Robinson on the wings in the last third. Give them the instruction to kick it as hard as possible against a defender (doesn't matter which part of the body) and get as many Tozer throw-ins as possible.
Convert 10% of the throws into goals, and just hope we outscore the goals that we are always like to concede.

Given that we rely on Tozer for most of our attacking options that sounds like a sound tactic !!

Complete codswallop. ISTBC, but we haven't scored directly from a Tozer throw-in since the Cheltenham game over a month ago. I also suppose people didn't see his nice pass over the top of Aldershot's defence to set up Platt's lobbed finish either.

Apart from that not being true, I also don't see what's wrong with the long throw option. It's a football skill - nobody ever thought Beckham was cheap for being good at free kicks. Personally, I absolutely love to see it - I think it adds moments of genuine excitement to our games.

Wel said, Banana. I always enjoy Tozer's long throws. Got to be the longest I've seen in 50 years watching the Cobblers.

Didn't we have an almost identical thread to this last season? Tactics from kick off changed for a short while after, remember the Jacob's kamikaze charge, but reverted back to hoofing soon after. And no it doesn't work, whether it's Bayo or Williams chasing the ball.

I'll never understand the logic of giving the opposing team the ball, but hey, I'm just a stupid supporter.
