If you want to trade insults, twat, go ahead. You miss the point entirely. I was probably as deluded as everyone else in my youth in thinking that what we saw at the County Ground was good football, and lived in eternal optimism when Vic Crowe arrived from Villa, Paddy Crerand from Man U, and Derek Banks with his Zimbabwean tobacco fortune. Even more recently when we had Matthew Rush on loan; Bunn, Crowe, Chambers and co. But having seen it all before, and with the arrival of the Cardoza that youthful enthusiasm gets soaked in realism and tinged with cynicism. There have been times when we haven't been mediocre. But we never so readily accepted it as we seem to now; especially when we continued to be told we had/have one of the biggest budgest in this division blah blah blah. It is patently obvious that right now we are mediocre, but there is no reason why that should become a paradigm. Accrington, Burton and Torquay are already suggesting otherwise.

Fair point Insider. I am slumped in front of my computer...rays of colour reflecting in my yellow-tinted geekish spectacles. My two son's have given up and gone to bed. Fed up but butterfly's in their stomaches for wednesday. I am a twat. I can justify many a performance, period of form, years of s***. Today has beaten me. I don't think I have missed the point. I just think this is it and always will be...it's not a generational thing. Ask my boys.

What will be will be but I'll be going to the Bradford game cheering on the team and hopefully see them get three points where as you seem to have given up the ghost. You might as well not bother going.

the other issue i have is since xmas 2009 we have had an amazing ability to concede goals either side of half time or late on which is down to a combination of inexperience and lack of concentration we are the opposite of Leeds we switch off at these vital times how many points have we lost already this season conceding at these times. Now don't get me wrong i am looking forward to Wednesday and the despite my head saying i just hope we don't embarrass ourselves the little voices are saying there is always a chance we can surprise everyone. but whatever happens we are worryingly short in depth and quality and i am just glad that Barnet and Macclesfield are looking even worse that us. i hope when i wake up in the morning i might feel slightly more positive about things. but no matter what i shall always be a cobbler

Yes ...I do spout s*** sometimes mate.... However...to think (as Ted says) that I thought I was going to purchase Michael Owen on the back of some towels is ridiculous. I do not have rose tinted specs like you seem to have Ted....we are a 4th divison club. We were lucky to get Cardoza.... we were VERY close to getting to the League 1 play offs which may or may not have got us to the championship. We could then have been up there with similar size clubs "punching above our weight". The gamble (with DCs cash) marginally failed... the well ran dry and now the cloth is cut to suit the income...... I really don't see how the misery triplets see how things can improve without a mega rich buyer coming in who wants to gamble another £7m? I enjoy watching the Cobblers with a sense of realism...I started watching them in 1980 when they were skint, had a crap stadium and an awful team with little skill. I watch them now in a debatably better stadium, greater skill levels due to the influx of foreigners in the prem pushing better players down the league (McKenzie, Thornton, Gabbiadini, Smith to name a few)....we are now skint again but we have a chariman who is realistic and is steering the club on a safer path than ever before. We ain't spending what he haven't got... Why don't we get McRitchie types back eh? Or maybe that lawyer who's trying to buy Rangers? Think what you like about me guys. It's a board for opinions...they all count. Mine is that we are a 4th division club that sometimes over achieves in League 1. Managing expectations reduces stress imo....I just enjoy the crack with the lads pre/post game....sometimes enjoy the game, sometimes I dont.... but for 1/4 of the cost of the Prem...I don't expect much else. Nor do I go home massively disappointed if it fails to deliver world class entertainment....

90% of arguments on here are down to differing interpretation of the messages sent out by the club.
Whilst most of our support bend over, they deserve to be fcuked......
...and still you keep buy your luxury first class all inclusive season ticket.... I'd have thought you'd have stopped going by now such is your disgust of what's going on...silent protest and all that.

If we lose to Bradford, we are well and truely f***ed. They have been diabolical so far this season. The locals are talking about relegation in very serious and concerned voices.

Lets be honest, we're not a BAD team. We're sloppy, we give away cheap goals and dont score enough.
I'd say being sloppy, giving away cheap goals and not scoring enough are the basic elements of a bad team.

I thought Peter Taylor was the expert at getting sides UP and out of L2, not down and out.

We could then have been up there with similar size clubs "punching above our weight". The gamble (with DCs cash) marginally failed Really? That is indeed your opinion and you are entitled to it. Others would disagree. The Cardozas - in my opinion - are a poisoned chalice, condemning this club to mediocrity until they get their hands on the enabling funds in 2026. I really don't see how the misery triplets see how things can improve without a mega rich buyer coming in who wants to gamble another £7m? That's the usual refrain of the claret tinted brigade. There are examples of clubs being run successfully on tight budgets by local though not rich businessmen who love football and without a mega rich backer. Sc***horpe, Rochdale, and now Accrington, Burton and Torquay bear testimony. You all assume that no-one would take over the club even if the Cardozas wrote off the their debt. I think you might all be surprised if they did. And if you think we are in a minority of 3, then thousands of ex season ticket holders and other disenchanted regulars suggest otherwise but for 1/4 of the cost of the Prem You need to get out more. Some Prem clubs and certainly many Championship clubs are charging around the £20 mark (outside the elite of course). That's a football reality that should be for another thread. You may be not disappointed if you go home from Sixfields having watched a pile of s***, but there are thousands of others who've voted with their feet and stopped going altogether. That support will be whittled away year-on-year until we're back to regular 1-2,000 attendances at Sixfields.

It's far too early to get terminally morose. We were totally outplayed yesterday by a team that's better organised, has more ability, and is currently on fire. We, by contrast, have hardly got going, are bare on squad resources, have a lot of young inexperienced players, and have been dealt awful blows on the injury front. There were also 2 dreadful refereeing decisions that did us no good at all. There's a long way to go yet, and what's left of our squad able to play the next few games needs as much support as possible. I'm not in cloud-cuckoo land, because I'm aware that Div 4 football is now generally very boring and few games are enjoyable. Yesterday at Shrewsbury we fannied about in front of goal, we didn't compete in midfield, and the defence was out of touch. So I agree it was awful. But we will recover.

Well, although alive at the time I can't honestly say I remember our rise through the divisions up to the very top in the sixties however I do remember 1975/6 when we had a cracking side. Although I didn't care much for the style, 1996/7 and the following year wasn't bad results wise and we had the two never to be forgotten trips to Wembley. The run to promotion under Kevin Wilson was exciting culimating in promotion at Torquay and although it took Calderwood far, far longer than that to get us up it we were a top seven side throughout 2003/4/5/6. Of course all that pales into insignificance compared to the 1986/7 Championship winning side under Graham Carr, now that was the time to be a Cobblers supporter. (the next season wasn't bad either) So there you have it, the sum total of my 45 years following the Cobblers. Yes, we've been and we are now mediocre but to say we've always been is a statement too far.

I hardly think Roachdale are a team aspire to, they have pretty much spent their entire 90 year league history in the bottom division with last year being only their second ever promotion! the law of averages suggested that they would get it right eventually, give it a few years when all their better players have moved on and they will be back in the bottom division.
