I’m writing this with tongue firmly in cheek so please let’s not squabble!
I’ve been reading these boards for many years but have only started posting occasionally in the last few weeks. From my years attending Sixfields and using the 606 message boards I’m acutely aware that we are a pretty divided bunch. I actually think it’s a good thing as it keeps being a fan interesting. I have a mate who is a Dagenham fan and I find their blind devotion to the board and manager a little unsettling. For my two pennies worth I think the Cardoza’s are amongst the best things to happen to the club in the 15+ years I’ve supported them, Sammo need time (at least 18 to 24 months to have a proper go at things), Gilligan works his arse off and doesn’t deserve the agro he gets off a section of our fans (Did anyone hear Terry Angus talking about his work rate on Saturday), and finally Steve Guinan is pants but he is not a murderer and again doesn’t deserve the abuse he gets.
Anyway the point of this thread was as follows. On Wednesday, for one night only can we please all get on and ban the following conversations:
- Whether or not we give a toss about the Liverpool game
- Whether or not the Cardoza’s are financially mismanaging the club
- Whether or not Sammo is tactically naive and bound for the job centre
- Whether or not Gilliagn is worse than a death camp guard
- Whether or not Guinan is the most useless footballer ever born
- And finally whether or not a section of our support has ridiculously over optimistic views on where our club should be
We are going to watch our humble little club play at probably the most famous club ground in the world (whether it’s half full or not). Let’s sing and dance like loons and be proud of our team! It’s for nights like this that I decided to support the Cobblers and not an Arsenal or a Liverpool. Let’s remember who and what we are and stop trying to pretend we’re some minted, upwardly mobile Donsesque outfit!
