I know this has been mentioned in dispatched before but if Collins signs surely he is the type who could make the move to centre mid? If Tozer is worth a go so is Collins who is more composed and better on the ball.
Or... we could just sign an experienced, semi-talented central midfielder rather than employ another square peg in a round hole? Just a thought.

This. If anything the last few seasons has taught us it has to be that trying to play players out of position doesn't ****ing work, not at this level. You might get the odd anomaly but in general it won't work. I'd love us to sign an experienced ball winner in the centre of midfield, he's always mentioned when this crops up but an Ian Taylor type is required - or more relevant to our level, Gary Jones from Bradford - I'm not suggesting we sign him before some nobhead pipes up and says we've no chance of getting him, just that type of player.

Well he stayed at Torquay for 2 seasons, only reason he is leaving now is because he can do better. At the age of 26 its not like he's close to retirement either, if we're playing League 1 football at the end of his contract why wouldn't he stay?
Would you rather bring in someone worse because they might stay longer? Not many people seem to be too happy that Demontagnac is still here and at 24 he could be considered a 'long term' option.
Of course I wouldnt rather bring in someone worse, I'd rather bring in someone better. Having said that, I think he is probably the standard of player we will be looking to bring in, and I appreciate we could do much worse. I just dont particularly like him, just like others dont like Demontagnac or Platt. Anyway, are we actually linked with him, or is he just on someones wish list with someone else saying he is from the area so we are an obvious choice? Also on the central midfield debate... I know that I have been calling for Linganzi but we also absolutely need to bring in experience. I'm not sure there is room for both if Harding and Guttridge sign, but neither seem nailed on. I thought Harding would be waiting with pen in hand but from his interview, it doent seem that way. Ian Taylor bossed League 2 and it would be amazing if we could bring someone of his calibre in, but nobody obvious springs to mind (not that Ian Taylor himself was expected/obvious).

Heard a Hardings contract offer wasn't what he was expecting and won't be signing.

My main point about Tozer's long throws is they are no different and probably more accurate than long corners. There doesn't seem to be any objection from purists to a cross from a corner.
Good point. On the other hand, those purists might argue that no one player is put into the starting XI simply on their ability to put in a corner.

Didn't Beckham make his career out of mostly being able to do good set pieces?
