I asked my soon to be 15 year old daughter what she wanted for her birthday the other day. I was expecting "money for clothes". OK, so she said "money for clothes" but before that she asked for a Cobblers shirt. A mixture of shock but pleasant surprise but mainly bemusement. When I asked her why, she said "so I can wear it when you take me to matches". Even more bemused as she's never ever expressed any interest in football let alone my team.

Anyway, who am I to say no and gives me even more reason to make sure I take in every northern away fixture next year, plus hopefully, a few train trips further afield.

So, +1 to the happy throng I guess! Treat her nice and no perving please!

PS... convinced her a nice retro shirt off ebay would be best. I'll be fooked if I'm shelling out £40 for a new one for her to turn around after a hammering on a wet Tuesday night in Rochdale and say "errr, Dad........"

My lads both come to matches more for something to do rather than any interest in the Teyn however my 5 year old daughter is desperate to come to games. We had tears last season when she was left at home with her mum and hers is the only bedroom in the house that is adorned with Claret and white memorabilia between the Winnie the po and Barbie stuff. Sometimes you just never know who will catch the bug.
The only problem I have is the magical afternoon she is imagining might be somewhat disappointing when the Sixfields experience cuts in. I did think I should wait for the redevelopment but I also thought that with my eldest and he’s 18 soon Sad

You should have taken her to Wembley. That'd have gotten rid of any silly ideas she had about following the Cobblers Grin

Good Afternoon..

It is a wonderful feeling sharing a love for football with ones offspring..My daughter is also football mad, and although dastardly Beckham stole her heart some years ago, she has adopted my Newport County as her second team!

Two trips to Wembley..last years Trophy defeat was just a big party day out, but getting promoted, and both my kids there at Wembley recently with me was so special.

Encourage her to support the team with you, and..what about your wife? If you can get her indoors on side too then life gets a whole lot better!

My 15yr old lad supports Newcastle. We don't get the exposure of League 2 over here too much. There are alot of prem games on the telly. He started following them since he was 6. That's not all bad as his Grandma is from there and he loves the black and white strips.

No problem at all with that, especially as you have family roots back there. Our friend Phil on the other hand... If your daughter is from Northampton, then she should have been encouraged to support them. Not some Welsh nonentities Evil

My Dad took me to my first game aged 14 (Bristol Rovers at home we won 4-0) and here I am nearly 8 years later and I can count on one hand how many home games I have missed since then haha.

So that £40 might turn into £400 if she gets the bug  Wink
