I am really pleased to see that the development is happening and that we are heading in the right direction!

Lib Dem shame...
Yes, have to agree. The ridiculously inept comment from Sally Beardsworth (?) about making sure the 'I's and 'T's are crossed does her or her party no credit - quite obstinately looking to oppose no matter is embarrassing. "Photocopies have to be made" or " care that documents are fully signed" might have held more value! Get out of politics woman!

The Lib Dems have been a big embarrassment to Northampton for a long time, a particularly useless ineffectual bunch. This redevelopment is the biggest thing for the Cobblers in years, we don't need these muppets trying to spoil things.

She got her name mentioned in an article that will be read by the majority of the readership! Any publicity is good publicity when desparate?

Fantastic news.... The funny thing about Sally Beardsworth is that she thinks she's being helpful to the electorate when in actual fact she is doubting the professionalism of the man who has basically grabbed NBC by the danglies, made positive decisions and began a much needed revamp of the entire Teyn.
All those who try to discredit this councils efforts just know that they failed so badly in the past they will never ever be trusted with looking after our town again.
So keep moaning Sally... We might be a small 4th Division club, but collectively we have far more supporters than you do. In fact, so do Rushden and Diamonds lol

Judging by responses on the chron website a fair number of the counties tax payers are unhappy with it.
It seems they wouldn't mind if the club had financed the scheme out of their own pockets but are annoyed to be seen to have to be propping the club up again.
Rightly or wrongly that is obviously a perception many people have that does the image of the club no favours at all.

When they are chucking close to 20 million of our money about there should be questions asked , that's why we have an opposition on the council. Its proper scrutiny , Democracy at work. All right and proper as long as they still come up with the dosh

Although the loan will comes from NBC it is in fact central Government money lent at an extremely low rate of interest to NBC which in turn lends it on to NTFC. The idea is to stimulate local economies into some activity and for once we are the winners. There will always be those that moan & groan and think it is "their" money but it is not. The Bank of England has been busy printing money for some time and the way I see it some of the paper stuff is coming in our direction.

I hope that the athletics track is relocated soon in the borough and that this time it meets the competition criteria. Apparently the track at Sixfields was several yards short to allow club meetings, hence Northampton AC merging with Rugby and competing 'home' events in a different county. Echoes of Coventry City's dilemma, but for different reasons of course.

Facts like that are not enough to satisfy some of the oddballs who leave comments on the chron website.

I guess this post will result in a major 'beating up', but here goes.
The Council approval is great news, but I'm afraid I have to set the record straight on the role of the Lib Dems. It's understandable that everyone should slag off the party that was instrumental in blocking an earlier application for expansion, but it's easy, after the passage of time, to forget the facts.
Here goes ...... the current application, which is mostly for housing, is completely different from the previous one that was made several years back. In that application, the plans were all about building substantial retail development. The Lib Dems opposed it on two counts - Firstly, to protect the town centre against further out-of-town development. Secondly, because, to have approved the application for retail development could have been illegal. There were (and presumably still are) several applications for retail development at Sixfields long before the Cobblers' application came along. To have been seen to have favoured the Cobblers ahead of other equally valid applications could have been illegal and could have resulted in lengthy, expensive court action, as well as the possibility of the council being 'dissolved' by Westminster. The Lib Dems were acting responsibly when they 'called in' the application, knowing that they would get hammered.
So there we go. I should add - I'm as happy as anyone that the development is happening. It's great news all round. I just think that the full facts need to be remembered.

I think you will find that if you ask DC the difference in his dealings with the current Tory controlled NBC as compared with the previous LibDem administration he will tell you that the current "can do" and will assist approach rather than the always negative approach of the LibDems are in stark contrast. DC has made as much clear in the interviews he has given. I write this not as a Tory but let's give praise where praise is due.

I agree. DC would certainly say that this council has shown a 'can do' attitude, but it's a lot easier to take this attitude when the application is 'do-able'. DC was very poorly advised when the 'retail' application was made. A further point to be made is that, on this occasion, the low-interest loan from Westminster is available. It wasn't before, which made carrying out development a far riskier proposition.

Thats all well and good, but it is a previous application that you are talking about. What is p1ssing most people off, is that the Lib Dums are still trying to oppose the current application. I think that you may well be on your own trying to defend them.

I agree that I might be on my own, but I've just checked back at the Chron. article and nowhere does it say that Sally Beardsworth is trying to oppose the plan. She says “It would be sensible to refer this to scrutiny to let people have a look at it and make sure all the i’s have been dotted and the t’s crossed. just to make sure no mistakes have been made before we go ahead.”. This surely suggests that Beardsworth is in favour of the plan, so much so that she wants to make sure it's not scuppered by careless formulation.

Good news.
On the lib dems, the only wish I have for them is that they get an absolute trouncing at the next general election.
