What's going on with Calvin Zola?!

Seems like he's not good enough for Crewe, but has turned down offers from Burton, Southend, Bradford and Shrewsbury (who can probably pay more than we can??) and now we're interested in signing him? Should we be? Why are clubs fighting over a Crewe reserve like this?

i have to admit, i don't really see what all the fuss is about either

i'd much rather we bought tozer or parker (ideally tozer) as dc hints at in the chron today

Calvin Zola is a great player, if I was Sammo I would be trying as hard as possible to get him!

If he's a great player, why don't Crewe want to keep him?

I think he thinks he can play at a higher level than League 2.

To be honest, he's exactly the kind of player we need at the moment.

Brute force, pace will and make chances out of nothing, a battering ram that'll open up the game and give space for the likes of Thornton and McKay. He won't score bags full and will blow hot and cold but he's definitely worth a purchase.

However, it's whether we can justify the big wage and fee that'll be demanded. If we can offload Guinan and the fee is a relatively small 5 figure one I think it's a great deal. But seeing as he's already turned down numerous other clubs in better positions than ourselves, both off and on the pitch, then I just can't see how we'd pull it off.

Billy McKay. A different type of striker, but a better one imo. With the right service he'd score s***loads for us.

Im with Nut on this one...

Billy McKay is potentially, easily a 20 plus goal-a-season machine.

Zola...is a decent league 2 player and no more than that. He has proved to be in-effective in league 1. But as I said the other day, he's as good proven wise that we can hope to get at the moment.

BUT personally I would rather us go out and spend some money on an up and coming conference player, go down the s***borough route of success. Cant name names but there must be some about, surely?

We wouldn't get our money back for Zola, thats pretty much a certainty. And we certainly wouldn't make any money...

Danny Kedwell at Wimbledon was mentioned during the summer and has already banged in 10 this season. He was up for grabs on a free this summer but we'd have to pay a fee for him now. At the top of the BSP goalscoring charts at the moment is a certain Mr Magno Vieira with 11 goals for Fleetwood. They'd also want quite a hefty fee I'd imagine, especially as they aren't exactly short on cash as it is.

Cant5 see what all the fuss is about, his records show that he has scored 1 in every 4-5 games. This calender year in 20 games he has scored against Darlo (2) Accrington (2) and Cheltenham.

Crawley offered £75k for him but he decided not to go just before the deadline. When he scored recently he pulled off his shirt to show a t-shirt underneath saying 'There's Some Things Money Can't Buy' on it.

Create chances for McKay AND Mackenzie playing together and we don't need to overspend on Zola

If we're going to pay a 5 figure sum for zola surely there's a player with more potential? Or why not get two loan players until the end of the season the go out and get some fantastic permanent signings when hundreds of contracts expire?
