Ravenhill and Guttridge are different types of players though, Gutts was strong in the tackle and good going forward. I'd have given you "Ravenhill is better than Harding" though.

I'd say Ravenhill is a better version of Guttridge as well.
If it makes you feel better I agree with you

I saw Gutts as more of an attacking midfielder, Ravenhill is fairly limited with the ball but is a great destroyer. Very very different players. Together they would be the perfect league2 unit. So I'm with the Harding comparison!

It still begs the question why wasn't boothy organizing this back in May. We also have one of the largest squads in the division so we'll have to off load the deadwood.
|
For goodness sake Doc we are NOT going down you heard it here 1st (I damn well hope that does not come back to haunt me)

The whole squad is dead wood, which one's to you pick?

Looking at the squad now (inc loans) I would want to discard: Carter Demontagnac Morris Hooper Deegan Heath Harriott Siddiqi
Answers on a postcard please as to how they can all be got rid of!

It's not a total nightmare when you look at that list on a slightly longer-term basis. Pretty clear Siddiqi is nothing to do with the playing staff. Heath, Harriott, Deegan, Hooper and Demontagnac are out of contract by the end of the season. Only really leaves Morris and Carter as the 2 major problems. For what it's worth I actually don't think Morris is as bad as people make out, not exactly a name that gets the pulse racing when you see the teamsheet but we've certainly had far worse. Carter? Can't help you there. I supose we have to hope he either comes good or his 'name' is sufficient for us to be able to move him on. Off the top of my head, there's a decent number of other players out of contract at/before the end of the season too - Platt, Nicholls (I think?), Amankwaah, Doumbe, Reid, Hackett, not to mention the loan players. Perhaps the 300ish homes in the redevelopment plans are all for our incoming/outgoing playing staff?

I think Heath is only here until January, I dont see us keeping him on, hes been crocked most of his time here. I agree regarding Morris also, hes not terrible, he actually has decent technique, however he has not physical gifts whatsoever which is never good for a player that gets pushed out wide often.

Agreed. The biggest one for me is Carter, the club needs 'to do a deal'. For both parties sakes. Other than Morris... Who I would like to see given a run in the side alongside Ravenhill... The rest will be gone in 6months time or less.
The issue with Carter will clearly be his wages reletive to what he offers. Unless he's prepared to play ball he could end up sitting on his contract for the remaining 18 months. Which is why a deal needs to be done sooner rather than later. Paying him 9 months now to leave would be cheaper than him sticking around hoping for a club to come in for him who he wants to play for. Very unlikely to happen unless by a miracle he gets back into the team and performs well. I've seen enough to suggest that that won't happen!

Darren Carter seems to have become the whipping boy for all of AB's summer mistakes. Some of the vitriol he has got on here is well over the top. I have'nt seen him play away this season but I have watched all of his home performances and to be honest he was'nt our worst player in some of those games. For me there are one or two others who have been far from their best as well but they seem to escape our wrath while Carter is getting plenty of it. The whole squad was responsible for those poor performances earlier not just one player and we all know that even good players can look extremely poor in a poor team. I'm not his biggest fan but I have the feeling that we will be seeing him again before the season is out so it might be worth keeping a bit of perspective on him.

Very astute post Eastie - I always knew that the East Stand would come up with a decent point of view

Perhaps you are right with this one. I was saying to my mate the other day that my biggest issue with Carter is that...basically I just do not like him. He's probably a top bloke but hey ho at least I admit it! As far as Im concerned, he just swans about, earns loads of money...jibs challenges, cannot pass, cannot shoot...and takes crap set pieces. Practically every time. He just turns up and takes his money. And when he isn't picked he stays at home and watches champions league on the TV. Get rid!

Other than a set piece which led to Collins' goal at AFCW, I can't think of anything positive Carter has offered to NTFC.

The squad as it stands now is better than last seasons.
Ravenhill is better than Guttridge. McLeod replaces Bayo nicely and is more mobile. Reid/Doumbe are both better than Cameron. Duke is not as good as Nicholls but he's a mighty fine replacement. Options off the bench with this squad are much better. Norris is better than Moult.
As it stands is all good and well. In a months time, Norris/McLeod will be gone and Ravenhill might be gone. Square one.

There is a lot of deadwood in the squad and a lot of rebuilding to be done. I agree that Ish, Hooper, Health, Harriot, Carter all need to go...i think Blyth can go too to be fair...I also believe that Aidy should not mess about when it comes to acquiring the services of Hackett( I know hes not been great this season but..) Reid, Ravenhill, Amankwaah , Mcleod and Norris for next season.
Would be interesting to know how over budget we are? 3rd round cup tie is very much needed for the purse strings?
