Our biggest problem is a severe lack of experience. We have two proper centre backs on our books, one is suspended and the other is on his way back from injury. Most of the reason why we crumble like cheese is we have far too few sensible heads in that team to show leadership.

If the kid turned out to be another Mark Little or Kyle Walker, or even John Johnson, you wouldn't be complaining.
They're all full-backs. We need a centre-back.

I'm pretty sure they all played at centre-back at some point in their loan spells here, but that's beside the point- the point is, that we could bring in a young centre-back who is outstanding, mature beyond his years and shores our defence up. To be honest I'm playing Devil's Advocate a bit here, I think we all know we really could do with an experienced centre-back who knows the ropes, but those are hard to come by on loan, and if all we can get our hands on is another youngster then let's not despair and give up on him and/or Sammo before he's even kicked a ball.

Just off load the current spine of the team, the 2 centre halves and the 2 centre midfielders, get rid of the soft centre that we have had for years and get some players in who actually have some leadership qualities and some balls.

I actually thought the Osman/Wedderburn partnership looked quite promising before Sammo inexplicabley decided to be bring Gilligan back in and things seemed to have gone down hill since then. Its no suprise to me that 3 of the 4 goals on saturday occurred after Osman had gone off.

chris perry is on that list!! We need someone like Alex Pearce, who is mature for his age and happens to be readings captain now and he must only be 21/22. Failing that we need a brute, Like branston!

Guy Branston is a good old-fashioned centre-half, but he'd be very likely to give away a penalty and get a red card within the first 5 mins! We need someone who has experience but isn't a bone-head.

I'm with you there Steve. I would never had that clod Branston back at the club after what he did to Bayo last season (knowing how dodgy Bayo's legs are). I aso think technically, he is a poor player. It's totally regressive to harp back to former players that weren't much cop in the first place. In a few years people will be saying bring back Ryan Gilligan mark my words!

Ian Sampson needs to find someone who fits his own mould as a player.

Chris Perry could do a short term job for us whilst Hinton regains his fitness. Worth a punt on non contract/monthly basis..

I think what he/she was saying is 'a player like Branston' - not actually Guy himself! Which I agree wholeheartedly with. We also need a Chris Hargreaves 'type' in midfield as well, but certainly not at the expense of Osman. In simplistic terms, the spine needs toughening up. When Atkins first arrived, that is exactly what he addressed straight away. The team he inherited was not too dis-similar to our current team, it had good players but mostly wide men and ball players. Plus Razor and Sammo himself. My biggest fear is that Sammo just doesn't have the contacts in the game to bring these type of players to the club. He hasn't shown any proof (other than the Middlesbrough/Crosby connection) that he has, and he's been in charge for around a year now. Hence his over-reliance on unproven kids that he keeps signing.

Completely agree that was an awful decision. He always put his body on the line.

Hargreaves and Branston 'TYPE' players. As opposed to Daniel Jones and Micky Bell 'TYPE' players. In other words experienced war horses, not talented but light weight ones... On the subject of Hargreaves, if he was below average then Im not sure what that makes 90% of midfielders we have had playing for us over the last 10 years? ! I know he wasn't brilliant but he was without a shadow of doubt better than average for a lower league central midfielder.
