It's a good bit of business to take him on loan until the end of season with a view to taking contract on. Give him a chance to work for it.
It also means he can play tomorrow!

Slightly disappointed at only one signing today, but it looks like a good one nonetheless.
Our starting XI is undoubtedly stronger now than it was at the start if the week, but will it be enough? Midfield still looks threadbare even with the addition of Ravenhill, but we've played our hand and this is the team that HAS to get us out of trouble now...

On paper, plenty of League Two sides would swap their strikeforce for Connell and Sinclair. Defence is reasonably solid despite the daft decision of letting Amankwaah go with no real replacement. Midfield is decent enough for this level without being spectacular.
Squad is adequate for top half at the very least. Whether Wilder can click it all into place and get them playing with confidence again is another thing though. That said, pretty confident of our survival now.

There is definitely some hope now. I'd imagine one or two loanees may be added. I'd definitely like at least one more in midfield. The other snag is that the majority of the new boys, if not all, have played very little football this year and are unlikely to hit the ground running. They also need the much vaunted time to gel as a unit as well. And time is not a commodity in strong supply.
One final worry is that we now have a smallish squad and need the key men to stay injury free. Not something we've had much luck with so far this season.
On the bright side though,
Duke McSweeney Doumbe Collins Widdowson Hackett Ravenhill +1 new midfielder Blair Sinclair Connell
Sounds a much better starting XI with a chance of winning 8 or 9 games between now and the end of the season. We'll see enough though.

Amankwaah was slow and past his best, the weak link at Newport, hence why he's now gone to Aldershot. Isn't McSweeney his replacement? Played 10 times for Carlisle this season in League 1 of which they only lost twice.

McSweeney is primarily a right back but also more than capable of playing at Left Back and right midfield.
Given Wilder would have had option open to extend Hurst deal to end of season / sign him and did not would suggest to me he viewed McSweeney as a better option.
Feedback from my orient contacts is good as well.

Still think we'll go down but these signings might give us a fighting chance.
Needed a centre half 'general' and a centre mid to make sure we don't have to play any of the terrible trio.

I agree about midfield needing a bit more, but overall what a great week it has been for a team propping up the other 91! A real statement of intent from the chairman and then from his newly-installed Management. At this rate I'll be able to come off the medication quite soon - maybe just wait for a couple of games to be sure.
