Why have the council lumbered us with a new station (if it even warrants that term) that is not even half the size of the bare minimum it needs to be and can't even cater for all the routes it is supposed to serve? If you live or want to travel to the South and West of the town then unlucky. You're getting wet and cold. Passengers don't want it, drivers don't want it, even the poor woman trying to put a brave face on it and explain the new timetables/stops in the station today doesn't want it. It's an absolute joke. It'll be interesting to see how the corner of Bradshaw St. and Sheep St. cope. My guess is 'badly'.

Greyfriars was one of the best bus stations in the country, just needed a lick of paint and a better PR.
Unfortunately Northamptonians have moaned their way to getting a very sub standard replacement.  Roll Eyes

I hate to get all nostalgic but the organised chaos of Derngate was the best bus station any town could wish for.

It was certainly a gloomy place, but as you say it served it's purpose excellently.

how many towns/cities of Northampton's size have a bus station? hardly any, Greyfriars was well past it sell by date & need more than just a lick of paint bus's have been picking up in the drapery for years so not much change there people just like to moan for the sake of it & Northamptonians are among the best @ finding fault in anything

Yes they have been stopping in the Drapery but if you got off there then that was your choice to walk. Now, if you live in the South or West of the town then you have no choice. You're walking and queuing outside. Speak to anybody that uses busses, drivers included, and none are in favour. Won't be long before there's a death outside it either, this isn't sensationalist but if you have every single bus user crossing the road where every single bus has to drive along then something is going to happen.

Walked past there today, and one delivery transit van was parked opposite the Bear on double yellows.
It was causing chaos worthy of a Saints traffic management scheme. Add to that, the new traffic lights at the junction of Bradshaw St, and the Drapery, and I can see a few buses running a bit late.
Also, if the buses turn left into the station from Ladys Lane, if they are waiting for other buses to reverse out of the bays, then their @rse end sticks out into the main traffic flow.
I do think however, that Greyfriars was a dirty smelly pit, that was past its sell by date.

do they stand in the warm to catch the bus in to Town then? there are pedestrian crossings to use but like the greyfriars you will get the idiots who used to walk across the road instead of using the underpass

It most certainly doesn't. Let me guess, they'll now have to keep greyfriars open.

I think the council should park a bus on our goal area after we go a goal up.

I quite liked the old bus station. Bus stations aren't meant to be architectural masterpieces, if they were they'd all look like Bristol Temple Meads.
It was functional, a damn sight warmer and had covered access to the main shopping street.
Also I can remember waiting for the last bus home and getting caught by some geriatric security guard with my hand up some girls skirt.

I’ve read that somewhere before?

As the stench of p1ss assulted her nostrils she stared forlornly at the hyperdermic needles as Cuthburt took diabolical liberties with her knees. “I say, stop that” shouted a handsomely uniformed man. Prudence stared dreamily at her saviour Clarence. - The Disgraceful Cad - Barbara Cartland
