For those that were there that day we will never forget the incredible rollercoaster we rode on for 90 enthralling minutes in the most important match in the club's history. What are people's memories from that day? One odd one that sticks out in my mind was coming off the pitch after the celebrations I saw an empty champagne bottle in the goalmouth. That seemed very apt.

I remember all the pubs near the ground were closed to away fans , so we walked up the hill into the town and went into a hotel and were quite surprised to see the team coming out! They had been in for their lunch and we were going in for our (liquid) lunch !

second half well it's in the history books,
all night on the lash in Shrewsbury,
someone drove back,
memory now fading of the game,

everyone said it will never happen again.....

20 years on...........er it is.

get Pat on the pitch in the 2nd half if it's as bad as it was 20 years ago,

I was there, nearly knocked myself out at the back of the stands jumping up to celebrate the backside goal. Remember a (i think it was burnley) fan try to nick my scarf. Sang myself hoarse and will never forget the rollercoaster of emotions all us cobs suffered that day as long as i live.

Remember loads about the game....

The despair at going two down & getting the finger from Shrews striker Griffiths...

THAT second half  that no one saw coming  Grin

The relief at the final whistle

Watching footage of me jumping on Psycho's back during the pitch invasion  Grin

Seeing Angus naked apart from that hat & thong combo!  Shocked

I saw Rob Marshall in the bogs at half time. I said 'I think that's it Rob' and he replied. 'Yeah, looks like it. Little did we know.......... Grin

I couldn't make the game as I was working until 2pm that day.

I went into Grosvenor shopping centre and was watching teletext in radio rentals (anyone remember them lol) window. I saw it was 2-0 at half time and wandered off. A friend who I used to go to County Ground with came along around 4.30pm after I went back to check score and we celebrated in the middle of the Grosvenor as if we were standing in the hotel end when it came through on the vidi printer that the final score was 2-3.... We got a few funny looks from shoppers as we jumped around and hugged in the middle of a shopping centre...

I did go to gay meadow the following season where the Cobblers supporters were joined by Angus Deayton doing a tv show about peoples passion for their team

I remember being a nervous wreck before the game as we drove up. No pubs were open near the ground so we decided to park in the carpark of The Dun Cow. The backdoor was open so I poked my head in. I said any chance of a drink. She said she had been told to close by the police and then saw there was only four of us. She ushered us in and locked the back door!! (Hotel California moment for sure). She sat us in the back room and served up four monster Cow Pie's along with god knows how many beers. A very sureal experience as we were the only ones in the place....as for the game well, I didn't think it was possible to feel at many emotions in one match. Your avarage Man U or Chelsea fan has no clue! Think it was Pat Gavin's equilizer when my little radio was swept away by a sea of claret n white. Eventually found it crushed to bits haha....no matter. Pat Gavin's ars* saw to that  Grin

I thought there were some old timers like me on here!
A couple more odd memories:
I lost my watch in the melee after the 3rd goal never to be seen again.
I clambered over the fence at the end to get on the pitch - just as the stewards decided to open the gates to make it easier.
I remember the Bury fans being there.
What a day - for so long it looked like being the worst day of my life, then became one of the best!

Did't we have a 10 day wait or something from the moment that Wrexham won promotion at the CG until the Shrewsbury game? I think that added to the nerves!! During that ten day wait,  Man Utd won the League title for the first time in eons.

I travelled down in a minibus with a few others, including the cameraman on the day, Mr Gary Mabee and his lads.

I've never known emotion like it. My best memory was dancing with Bury fans on the pitch after we helped them into the play-offs and exchanging shirts.

Won't be there tomorrow, best man at my mates wedding. Not sure if I'm gutted or relieved. I suppose I'll know by 5pm tomorrow afternoon.

UTC!!

Never fails to put a smile on my face watching that video.
What a day that was I'd settle for a nice easy win tomorrow with no dramatics.
One things for sure win lose or draw I wont be on the pitch this time.

I was there with barton cobbler and the gang, I remember feeling totally drained of emotion after the game, from the total depths to the pinnacle in 90 minutes it was all so unreal, my best Cobblers moment ever, even better than the Wembley win as so much rested on it, just hoping that we can all feel that same rush of elation tomorrow.
